Sorry about the size of that screen grab
Ah, itâs starting to make sense, as I canât be using 192.168.0.x. The router interface tells me I am using 217.155.223.50 . Iâll try the command with that address.
Again, you need to change that 217.155.223.50 address in your router settings.
Plex is NOT going to work properly until you do.
Also, you have left yourself wide open to attack from the net by using that address range.
It is a WAN address, meaning it is completely open to the internet where anyone may discover it.
Using a Private network address protects you from that type of attack, since no one can see your network from the internet. That is the purpose of Private IP Addresses.
Right, I get you, and your previous post. I will find out how to get a private IP address.
If you tell me exactly what make and model your router is, I will try to show you how to change things, as long as I can find the user manual for it.
Thatâs very nice of you. Itâs a FRITZ!Box 7530 AX
Your routerâs manual is a bit of a mess, it does not show the menus clearly.
I believe you need to find the DHCP settings and then change the address range there.
The settings shown above should be suitable for your LAN.
Thanks. I have asked my ISP for help also. Presumably this is why Plex seems to struggle to play titles (if at all); as you say Plex is not going to work properly as-is.
Look for Distributing IPv4 Addresses or IPv4 DHCP Server in your Fritz!box settings, hopefully you can track it down.
If the Fritz!box settings have a search function, that may help you also.
salut Ă tous, Moi je suis chez Free et je nâest plus accĂ©s Ă mon serveur depuis ce matin .Hier soir tous fonctionnĂ© correctement.

Hopefully I looking in the correct place, although most of this is new to me: fritzhelp.avm.de
use this page: https://portforward.com/ old as heck and very useful to figure out all the Basics.
Even if it dont have your router the examples wills till help as there really isnt that much difference between them. Just keep in mind you are NOT port forward anything! So skip that.
This one too us very easy basics: List of Default Router IP Addresses For Common Router Brands - SecurityBind
That page wont help you, it is talking about using Fixed IPv4 addresses, which is not something you really want to do.
You need to correct/configure the DHCP address range used by your router.
Me or PunkleJones? Thanks.
SSH to a Synology NAS
First fix the IP addressing.
To use SSH, the NAS user must be a member of the administrators group.
- Login to DSM
- Synology Control Panel â User & Group
- Edit the desired user
- User Groups tab
- Add to the administrators group and Save.
Also, port 25 is a bad choice. It is reserved for SMTP (e-mail). If you were to run an email server on the NAS then there would be a conflict with SSH traffic. If you want to change the port number, pick an unassigned or unofficial port. See List of TCP and UDP port numbers.
Download & run DBRepair for Plex Media Server on a Synology NAS

I have changed the port to 15 which seems safe. I tried to change the IP address to a fixed one but came unstuck when changing System Settings>Wi-Fi>Network>Details>TCP/IP to Private Wi-Fi Address>fixed and changing the IP address field, but I couldnât connect to the internet at all, so I put it back how it was. I will read up more about how to go about fixing my IP address to a steady one.
Re. fixed IP addresses, I heard from my ISP today, after I asked them how do I set a private IP address: âA private IP address is used only within your home network and is not accessible from the internet. These addresses allow your devices, such as laptops, phones, TVs, and printers, to communicate with the router and with each other securely. They are separate from your public IP address, which is what the internet sees.
The FRITZ! Box 7530 AX already handles this automatically. It assigns a private IP address to every device that connects to your network, so there is no need to request or configure one manually. As soon as a device joins your Wi-Fi or is connected by cable, the router provides it with a private IP address from its internal network range.â
He offered to help finding the IP of a specific device or configuring advanced settings.
Is a private IP address done through the router, or through my computer? I read somewhere that itâs best to do it through the router, but thatâs only an opinion, I suppose..

To change the IP address range on your Fritz!Box, log in to the user interface at
192.168.178.1
Navigate to Home Network > Network > Network Settings, click Additional Settings under âLAN Settings,â then click IPv4 Settings. From there, you can change the DHCP serverâs IP address range to your desired values.
I recommend using 192.168.178.20 - 192.168.178.200 if it is not already set to that.
Step-by-step guide:
- Open a web browser. (Firefox, Chrome or Edge, etc.)
- Enter
192.168.178.1into the address bar and press Enter to access the Fritz!Box user interface. - Log in with your Fritz!Box password.
- Go to Home Network in the menu on the left.
- Click on Network.
- Go to the Network Settings tab.
- In the âLAN Settingsâ section, click Additional Settings to see all the options.
- Click on the IPv4 Settings button.
- You can now change the IP address, subnet mask, and the range of IP addresses the DHCP server will assign.* Click Apply to save your changes. You may be asked to confirm the procedure on the Fritz!Box itself.
At step 9, if you are not sure what to change, then post a screenshot of the page and I will tell you what to change and how to change it.
