On PS4, why does the Plex App lag, but the Plex DLNA server on PS4 doesn't?

The situation:

I have a PS4 with Plex App and a PC with Plex. It’s connected on wifi.

However recently, the Plex App on the PS4 has started to lag intolerably. Videos that were fine previously are constantly buffering, to the point where it is nearly impossible to watch. Buffering every few seconds…

I’ve tried optimizing, reducing the settings, rebooting the server and the app… No change.

I have had Plexs DLNA server enabled for a while, but never used it. So as a last resort, I tried that.

It works perfectly. Without any lag whatsoever, even on the bigger files…

So my question;

Why is the DLNA server working great, but the official Plex App for PS4 is very slow and laggy?

There’s a flaw in the PS4 app, I have the exact same issue.

When I access Plex through the Playstation web browser, or absolutely any other device, everything works fine.

On the PS4 app, both the release and beta versions stop to buffer every 5-10 seconds, rendering it essentially useless. This isn’t a setting that can be tweaked, it’s a problem with the app.

I’m really hoping that they fix it soon.

I have the same situation on PS4 App but not on browser.

But guess what? Some TV programs play smoothly while others do not. I still has no clue about this.

Yep. Since this post I’ve found around 1 in 5 shows plays just fine. It’s nothing to do with resolution, some that play fine are 1080, some are 720, and the broken ones can be any resolution too. It’s also nothing to do with bitrate. It’s super annoying.
