Please add an onscreen mute button.
Which client type?
iOS, macOS Browsers and I’m sure all of the other clients would benefit as well.
The Plex web app already has a mute function.
Smart TV and Android TV clients usually have a remote control with a Mute button.
What is the use case of a Mute button on the mobile clients?
I see the speaker icon works as a mute button in the web app… This is great because it solves all my Mute problems when using the web app.
I do 90% of my viewing in the iOS Plex App. In iOS there are ways to lower the volume, but they require way to many taps and swipes that involve different screens or overlays for volume control.
One method is to swipe the screen for the control panel and then lower the volume. This blurs Plex in the background and seems to really eat up my battery unless I leave the control panel and then return to it.
In the iOS Plex app I could hit the “…” menu and then slide the volume down, return to where I can the image still and the repeat all those steps when I want to increase the volume again.
The remaining method is to get a secure hold on the iDevice to press the volume button until the it has lowered all the way and then again to increase the volume.
Use case is that I would like to mute audio while playback continues as I see fit without a cumbersome process to do so. It should be as simple as two taps on screen. One tap to bring up the playback control then a second tap on a mute button. Four taps total round trip.
The UI has all kinds of space by the playback controls. The Speaker icon and Volume Slider could easily fit to the left or right of the player controls.
