Not sure what changed but sometime around a week or two ago is when this problem started I believe.
Currently none of my libraries are updating automatically when new content is added. I have found a thread that linked to check for a corrupt DB (which I checked and rebuilt anyway) but that did not help.
Link to logs after triggering a manual scan of the Movies library here:
If I trigger a scan, new media is added normally and matched successfully. Obviously manually triggering a scan is a PITA. I even tried to un-check the auto scanning options, Save and then re-check and Save. That did not help either.
To determine the root cause (which is likely that you’ve exceeded the Linux default of 8192 directories monitored – which is easily increased), I need to see the DEBUG logs captured as PMS starts up please.
Verify DEBUG on, VERBOSE off
Restart PMS
Let sit idle for 60 seconds
Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
Attach the ZIP file.
Also, be advised, there is no automatic detection for any network-mounted media. The protocols predate iNotify and were never updated to support that functionality.
re. Network media. My media has always been on a “network” mount and I have never had any issues. Originally SMB, but for the past 1+ year NFS. Although I don’t see how PMS cares it is just a path (in Linux anyway). Unless I am mistaken.
BTW, PMS updated to Version 1.17.0.1709 since my first post.
I’m experiencing the same issue at this time, noticing some files have completely disappeared after a file is replaced (higher quality content) PMS removed the tile from it’s listing even though the file is still mapped to the same location. I will also attach logs if needed.
Sorry I don’t follow. I did exactly what you asked.
Debug on, Verbose off, Stopped PMS, Started PMS, waited 60 sec, downloaded the logs and uploaded them to Gdrive which I linked in my 2nd post/reply right after yours.
Here is what I suspected, You have more than a total of 8192 directories for PMS to monitor.
8192 is the Linux default table size and is easily increased.
Here is a How-To to increase the table size based on your needs and allow for future growth.
Thanks, I corrected the permission errors you had pointed out.
And I have increased my table size. Although the link you gave isn’t clear what directories I should be checking (for the limit). I assumed just my media folders. I was well under the standard threshold @ 51xx directories.
Issue still persists. Actually now it seems like it doesn’t pick up a new movie I just added even when manually initiating the Library scan. TV manual update still works though.
I’ve attached a new ZIP of the log file after restarting PMS and waiting about 90 sec.
Sorry but your not clear in your instructions. Full count of what exactly?
Following your instructions in the thread you linked I counted my /shares folder only which is where ALL my media is. the count was 5608 I believe. But it’s not clear if I’m only supposed to be counting my media folders or more.
I have found a test elsewhere to see if iNotify is an issue on my server - it is not.
Just wanted to update. With the help of Chuck to point me in the right direction, the issue was actually caused by my own nonsense.
My NFS mount options in fstab were preventing the notify service to work on my shares - this is why PMS wasn’t able to detect new media and only manual (or periodic) scans would pick up media.
This all started when my PMS server started to have issues mounting the NFS shares on boot and I had to make a change to delay them until the network service fully started. I’ve revised the NFS options and now all is well. They mount correctly/fully after boot and Notify service is working as it should.
