Either way PFK Isn’t dead just slowed down.

Well “slowed down” is stretching it I think. If my heart beat slowed down this much I’d be dead for sure

I guess a polite way of describing the current state, is that development has been aligned with the PMP team

Yep, totally agree. The only difference is that with this project they’ve actaully delivered something which is usable even if it’s not pretty much dead.

Real shame that Plex don’t value their userbase anymore.

Playing the devil’s advocate, one could submit they are valuing their user base by pulling their limited resources from what is likely a product with the smallest user base (and will likely always be one of smaller user bases, if not the smallest) to products with a larger user base.

I’m saddened by it, but that is probably one of the realities to the pulling of resources.

If that in itself were true then I’d agree. The reality is that the resource is now probably on a pointless new feature that no one has ever suggested they want … how much rubbish have we seen launched that no-one has asked for

There is a definite lack of project management. And customer research.

This does appear to be true.

Perhaps the add-on has been put on hold due to it’s eventual obsolescence/incompatibility with Kodi 18?

I’m not familiar with Kodi 18… why would that make it obsolete/incompatible. Is it going to require a complete rebuild?

Yes, complete rewrite needed.

Well I can live with staying on v17. I love this app and just hope it is at least kept alive. Would love it to continue to develop but I guess it won’t. It’s got to be the best plex app I’ve found so far and I’ve tried a lot!!!

This plugin is stable on V17. I think continuing development at this point would not make sense because there would be more to rewrite when V18 comes out. The biggest feature they did not get to that everyone was screaming for and they said would be done is Plex Companion.

Yes but the reality is that we don’t know if it even will be developed for V18.

We’ve had no confirmation that this client is going to be developed anymore for V17 either or at least we’ve seen no more at this stage which is worrying to say the least.

Guys, a bit of topic here, but I thought I chime in; For sure the biggest benefit that kodi has over others (Plex and Emby) is its playback engine and good TV integration with encrypted channel(HDHomerun plugin) support and a HUGE library of plugins. Biggest downside of kodi is that it has no server and all data handling is local. Keeping several Kodi machines each with plugins up to date is a lot of maintenance work.
The problem Plex and Emby have is that they decided to build players and a lot of other bloating into their servers.

Is it not possible to get the best of both worlds? Can the Kodi team not build their own standalone server and a plugin? That way, we can use just Kodi programs and are not relying on other peoples code. Then for those who really want their lightning fast local data, they can still use Kodi as a stand alone app.

PlexKodiConnect already exists. Go and use that if you are so inclined. Everyone in this thread is interested in using THIS addon.

The more quiet this thread goes makes me all the more anxious the development of this is dead as much as I defend them.

It’s hardly fair to pull the only dev off this project to work on PMP and basically stop development of this until some unspecified time.

Shame.

@elan Is there any chance of an update on the resource for this great app?

May as well ask why the only developer working on this was pulled off this to work on Plex Media Player while you’re at it…

I’m sure you’ll be met with equal silence.

Do you want to know what happens to resources commonly employed to work on “bleeding edge” technology?

I am inclined to agree. The add-on works great, but having the trailer pre-roll is pretty important to me. PFK with the (fuse)neue skin is probably where I’m headed.

by the neue skin you mean the one that was developed for PHT?

No. It is a kodi specific skin.
