(ONLY FOR SERIOUS TESTERS) Bleeding Edge Testing Releases

@anthonws said:
Do you want to know what happens to resources commonly employed to work on “bleeding edge” technology?

I get the message behind this but PMP is very new so not exactly old tech.

That being said, if they don’t plan to develop this further, we deserve to be told that it won’t be (and bugfixes applied), not left to find out like Xbox 360 users were.

Seeing this thread empty does little to console me of the idea that I might be using a recent video player with an outdated skin soon.

Not many options with a Odroid C2 but Kodi unless Plex decide to pursue AMLogic development again.

@keithah @ruuk

Can we get some sort of comment on the future of this plugin or if we will receive bug-fixes if this is no longer developed? I’m disappointed the only person working on this has been pulled to work on other things. I get you have priorities at your new place of work but since when did one application (PMP) take priority over another? AFAIK most other apps have a team behind them that work on them. If Ruuk is the only one able to work on this, why should he be pulled and development of this cease? Any clarification you could provide would be appreciated.

It’s a real shame that this app is now dead from a continued development persepctive. Just as long as we know it will be maintained to continue to work as PMS evolves.

Yes, there’s loads of development I’d like, I just need to know that it will be kept alive.

It can’t be dead, I have just paid to become a Plex Pass user just for this addon. It looks great but has some issues that I was hoping would be fixed. Now I am not so sure. Folder view in home videos or my fitness videos is essential to me and missing here. Also I have some weird issue where text is overwriting other text in the top left corner of the home screen.

Really disappointed if this isn’t going to be updated and eventually available to all. It is the only way I can watch movies in 24p on my Fire TV using Plex, such a shame!

Sad

Err hate to break it to you but yes, it can die, just like that.

Xbox 360 users got no notification the app wouldn’t be developed. Just stopped. Heck we even got notification that PS3 wouldn’t get any feature updates anymore yet there’s nothing for this.

Are you listening @keithah / Plex?

Keeping us in the dark is very frustrating. Especially since we don’t know what’s happening at the V18 mark.

I’d take a “there’s be more news soon” at this point.

It’s the usual plex approach unfortunately. This app offered soo much potential. For me, it works as it is, just a shame that they haven’t taken this as the plex standard. Just hope they keep it functional with new PMS’s. I think the PMP dev (or lack of) is the benchmark for plex. Real shame,

regarding your text issues - are you using the default kodi skin? That is required for the the plex add-on to display properly.

Thank you, that fixed that issue, it’s nigh on perfect now!

Only one wish then, folders view for my fitness videos and its complete

Here’s a crazy idea… maybe Plex should open source the code so that the plugin will ACTUALLY get the features its missing from enthusiast coders, and all they’d have to do is manage code commits, instead of actually doing the coding themselves.

you mean this: https://github.com/plexinc/plex-for-kodi

Can anybody tell me when Kodi 18 will be supported? since KODI have been updated the addon dont work. It will start, and i can sign in, but then the plugin will crash or hangs on loading.

v18 is still a developmental build. v17 is the officially released version.

Given that development has seemed to stop for this add-on, at this point, I’d say it is unlikely v18 will ever be supported.

Would love for @keithah to state differently.

bad to hear… i loved the plex for kodi app, because it worked very good. Maybe a developer can fix it.

Fix what? If you mean make it run on Kodi 18…meh!!!
Spend time making a preview release app run on development build KODI? Shocking idea!!
As for the developer fixing it I’m not sure which one u mean. as you have only just been told they haven’t been seen for several weeks.
This is no way the developers fault, Just Plex.Inc doing what they have done for years. Especially with all the HTPC apps… Part build… abandon (or at least give the impression of abandonment).

If you love Kodi take a look at PlexKodiConnect… It does a great job and the developer @croneter is always around.
Failing that there is OpenPHT.

I tried PlexKodiConnect and I just can’t get it to work at all. I have Plex Pass and two managed users and I can’t even get it configured properly.

Does it work with managed users?

I’m pretty sure when I used it there was support for Plex Home (managed users).I’m sure @croneter will confirm.
I haven’t switched back to PKC yet but its on my to do list over the next few days.
What part of configuration where you having issues with? Adding custom Plex libraries into Kodi by any chance?
Anyways it’s probably not the right place to discuss a different app… despite it being a graveyard here

Can someone remind me if it’s ok to increase kodi’s video cache for remote streaming on a emmc flash card size?

Won’t damage the card?

Best settings to use?

I’m as disappointed as all of you guys at our lack of any progress. Ruuk is working on a huge re-write for another client, which is amazing, but unfortunately it’s been longer than everyone has expected and taken more time, and I’m super busy as well.

But we haven’t forgotten about it and it’s still something we care about. Before V18 comes out, I will get this updated for sure.

Thanks for the feedback!

PlexKodiConnect should work on pretty much any Kodi installation and also with several managed Plex users. Please describe your issues in more detail here:

Thank you for breaking the silence. Transparency is key.
