Plex Kodi "Playback failed" error!

Hi,

I am having an issue possibly after a server upgrade although i’m not 100% sure…

When playing certain media i get “Playback failed” - some media will work fine but most i get this error…

Using latest official Plex(1.03) Addon with Kodi(17.3 Krypton) on Asus Chromebox running Openelec

My Plex Media Server (Argon) is remotely located at my office, running latest build 1.10.0.4523 (at the time of this post)

Could somebody help me debug this please?

UPDATE

I rolled back my Plex Media Server to an earlier version and it has resolved the issue for me anyway…

I was using the latest v1.10*** and i downgraded to v1.09*** and i can confirm this has fixed the issue - hopefully this helps others with their playback issues.

My setup;

  • Plex Addon (0.1.3)
  • Kodi (17.3 Krypton)
  • Openelec 17
  • Hacked Asus Chromebox

yep definitely an issue with upgrading PMS to 1.10.x … haven’t we learned by now? :smiley: oy vey.

"down"grade to 1.9.6.4429-23901a099 worked for me.

Hello,

i have the same problem.
Kodi on Raspberry Pi and Kodi on WIN10.
On both plugin start and i got the same error - cant play mkv files.

  • Plex Addon (0.1.3)
  • Kodi (17.3 Krypton)
  • Raspberry Pi 3
  • Win10

I test the from above.

i have the same problem.

All sorted now. Managed to get the correct APK file for the last 1.9 version, side load onto the SHIELD and I now have glorious UHD HDR back and playing perfectly

So do we have to register a bug somewhere or what for this to be fixed? I don’t think reverting server to older version is good idea for security reasons :slight_smile:

yeah, i get the error “playback failed” with external access to my media. Not with all media I receive the error message. I dont know why… but it started with the update to 1.10.x.

Anyone else have an idea that actually works for Plex. This is a no go for external media access on Kodi Add On outside of my LAN.

This seems, from what I can tell, only happening if you try viewing the content from a different location. I went over to my friend’s house and my mother’s house and getting failed playback on two of the same items, but when I am at my house using Plex add-on for Kodi it works fine on the same network as the Plex server viewing those items. Plex on Nvidia Shield TV or Amazon Fire TV doesn’t have the problem in remote locations.

In the same network it works without problems. But it did work too outside of my locale area network before.

We need client AND PMS logs. I can’t reproduce this, neither can the dev, so we need as much info as possible.

Same problem here for the last few weeks now. It started with just a few files, but now no media will play.

Shield TV
Kodi add-on
Plex server on unraid box.

I haven’t tried rolling back at version yet. Which logs are needed, and where can they be found on the shield tv?

I tried playing 5-6 different files at 23:25-23:27. All of them failed playback.
