Optimising Film files..... is it worth it?

Hi,

Apologies for all the questions but just getting into this.

On Plex it gives you the option to “Optimise” a file for play back on a TV for example. I thought Plex would automatically optimise play back depending on the device you are using to view the file.

So is Optimisation worth while?

depends on your use case…
if you’re mainly watching your content on a tv which can direct play your content, optimizing is overkill.
if your client isn’t capable to direct play or you want to optimize for mobile use, optimizing can be helpful.
