I won’t belabor the issue as it has already been addressed in at least 2 closed threads.
Basically it sounds horrible with direct play. If it is forced to transcode, which is obviously not ideal for the video, then PMS transcodes the audio to AC3 which plays fine.
Whether the implementation of opus support is broken or if Roku just can’t handle it, I don’t know. It would be nice if at least for Roku PMS would transcode the audio if Roku can’t handle it natively. If the Roku can handle opus, like my Fire stick can, then it would be nice to be able to actually direct play it. But one of those two things should really happen. Having to manually change the device settings just for those files is not ideal. Reencoding and remuxing is not really a fair suggestion either.
@ljunkie - sorry to tag but odd that 3 threads on this and no apparent feedback. Would be fine with me to just make PMS transcode opus for Roku. At least it would be functional.
Sure. Here is one. Again, I think it would be fine to even just have PMS handle these files my transcoding audio for Roku but just leave the video alone.
From what we can tell this only affects OPUS having more than 2 channels. I think we’ll limit the workaround to OPUS having more than 2 channels. Do you have any stereo OPUS streams that replicate this behavior?
I don’t have anything that is opus stereo, but it would be easy to use handbrake to reencode it and down mix the 5.1 file to stereo opus. I can do that and upload it to dropbox if you would like.
