Organising iTunes Extras content

Hi,

First time poster and new user to Plex, so please be gentle!

I've been using iTunes for managing all my media to date, but I'm exploring Plex and am loving it so far.  I've added my iTunes Movies and TV directories to Plex and all works fine.  I have some content which I purchased from iTunes.  I know that the content won't play because of DRM and I'm working on resolving that... however, some of the purchased content came with "iTunes Extra" content; behind the scenes, making of's etc...

The problem I have is that the content is displayed as individual items within my Movies library and frankly looks messy.  So my question is - can I associate these additions with the main movie and 'stack' them all together?  Or is there a way to hide these (as I won't be watching them too often.  I don't want to delete this content in order to hide it, and I don't think (?) I want to 'merge' the items in Plex as it seems to suggest that "merge" is for duplicate files (or do i?!)

I've attached a screen shot example of the issue... essentially I'd like to 'hide' all the items on the right of the main movie, or I'd like to 'stack' those within the main movie...

Sorry for the daft question - but does anyone have any thoughts!?

Thanks!

Hi - so after a bit of googling and reading of other support posts, I decided that hiding them was the best option.

Thought I'd post the solution in case it's of use to others.

I made use of the .plexignore file (detailed here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201375253)

I ended up using the following pattern in the file:

# Ignore files with the extension ".ite"
*/*.ite*/*

which took a bit of tweaking and playing to get working, but thank you to this post for helping! : https://forums.plex.tv/topic/83457-bug-plexignore-not-used-on-subsequent-scans/

I hope this helps others at some point!?

I have tried this pattern every which way and it still will not ignore these files in my library. PLEASE HELP!!! What directory did you post the .plexignore the parent “~/Movies” directory or the movie directory “~/300 (2006)”?

I added my ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Media/Movies directory. Inside that directory, I have the following in a .plexignore file:

# Ignore Directories with ".ite"
*/*.ite/**/*.*

That did it for me. The .plexfile has to be in the Movies directory if you’re using standard iTunes file structure, but you can tweak it to fit yours if you need to. If you’re not familiar with unix glob matching, let me explain why this matches, using this directory example.

Directory whose children I want to ignore:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies/The Three Musketeers - iTunes Extras/The Three Musketeers - iTunes Extras (v2.0).ite

Now let’s look at the glob matching:

  • Firstly it starts matching in the current directory.
    • e.g. ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies/
  • */ - This means “any child of this folder that is a directory”.
    • e.g. The Three Musketeers - iTunes Extras/
  • *.ite/ - Any child of that folder that is a directory with any name, but ending in “.ite”.
    • e.g. The Three Musketeers - iTunes Extras (v2.0).ite/
  • **/*.* - Any combination of directories and files therein.

On second thought, maybe it’s still showing up…

Nope, that format:
# Ignore Directories with ".ite" */*.ite/**/*.*

…worked PERFECTLY for me - thanks, all!

Aaaaaaaand, it’s no longer working: Something in a recent update to the Plex server appears to have completely broken the “.plexignore” functionality.

Is the Plex development team aware of this, and is working on a fix? How can we best report, and ensure a fix is forthcoming?

Hmm… I may have fixed it:

I simplified the contents of the file to simply call out everything within an “*.ite” directory (with no references to the various levels of hierarchy within):
# Ignore Directories with ".ite" *.ite/*

This seems to (again) work, but I’m curious if this was a known regression, and if we had any information about this functionality being modified in the recent server release(s)?

This does not work for me i must me doing something wrong.

this is my path
/Movies/Cinema Movies/Focus T25 Beech Body.ite

I want to ignore Focus T25 Beech Body.ite

So i placed my .plexignore under Cinema Movies with this in the file

`#THIS IS JUST SO PLEX IGNORES FOLDER.ite

.ite/`

but it still scans that folder does anyone know what i could be doing wrong.

I tried these steps without success, but these instructions worked:
