I have been using Plex for about 3 years. When I first started, I created directories for Animated (kids), Movies-Kids, Movies, and Rated R. As my collection got bigger, this organization started to seem inadequate. I keep adding directories and further subdividing.
Is this how other peoples usually organize? Or do others dump all movies into one big directory? I have about 1200 movies right now and if they were all in the same directory, I would have difficulty finding them.
Are there better ways to manage collections as they get larger?
Plex developers have 3 libraries:
Movies
TV Shows
Music
They have about 4 items in each library… you know… so they can stay on pulse of the user base. On Time. Johnny on the spot. Tuned in, turned on and dropped out, man.
I have about 28 libraries (and growing), but strangely none of these great new features seem to work very well - unless you have one movie library, one music library and one tv show library.
Gee, I guess that’s by design.
What we need is a handbook about how Plex Developers use Plex… wait… Plex Developers don’t use Plex… that’s right. If they did they might get interested in fixing a whole lot of this **** that isn’t working, but hey… no danger of that happening… right?
You have to do the same thing everyone else is doing - do what works for you, until it doesn’t, then do something else.
I really don’t recommend one magnum movie library - unless you want to board the express elevator to the booby-hatch… even though that’s what Plex recommends, uses and designs for.

Yeah, I am probably at about 16. I have 3 different TV show libraries, one for adults, one for kids and one for music/equipment/band training and tutorials that I have.
I probably have about 14 movie libraries and one music.
You have to do the same thing everyone else is doing - do what works for you, until it doesn’t, then do something else.
OK, I guess I will just keep on doing what I am. Would sure be nice if there was some way to drill down and sort by rating, type, etc…
I tried to find other threads on this topic, but didn’t really have much luck. When I search it all seems to keep bringing up naming conventions. I have that handled for the most part.
I pretty much like PLEX and I have purchased the lifetime Plex Pass. Wish it was a little smoother. I haven’t found any direct competitor. Is there one?
