I’ve currently got all my media in two libraries - “TV Shows” and “Movies”, which are now becoming too large to easily sort through.
Would love to hear what libraries you all have setup. I’m in the process of moving to this library setup below, but would love to add more based on what everyone else does:
The introduction of inline collections helped me a lot with the organization of my media.
For now I’ll stick with my 2 main libraries (Movies, TV Shows) and the supplemental ones I’ve created some time ago (Short Films, Movie Editions). Cross-library references are managed through same-named collections (e.g. Marvel Movies/One-Shots, Pixar Movies/Shorts or Star Wars Movies/Animated TV Shows).
I’ve opted against creating dedicated libraries for Anime or Cartoons… (at least for now).

TV Shows

Anime TV Shows
Anime Movies
Cartoon TV Shows (ex. Batman TAS, Ren & Stimpy)
Cartoon Movies (ex. Disney animated movies)
For myself I soon discovered having large Libraries took it’s toll with Plex apps, in my case Smart TV app. My TV is a 2014 LG UHD Smart TV which unfortunately has a dual core processor. My second TV in the Man Cave is a Quad core is far quicker.

Ascending order of Libraries for frequent viewing.
DVR - Library for Freeview recordings
New movies for evaluation, keep or trash.
I do not really agree with the idea of a whole bunch of small libraries. It seems to me to excessively complicate library management.
The only thing missing for me from Plex has been collections and they finally have added that.
I do not have my movies or TV show all in one directory but rather I have movie directories for each letter but all those are included in my libraries.
I do not find it at all hard to find what I want to watch on any client I use, mainly Rokus.
Of course I pretty much know every movie I own. (nearly 3000) I would not expect most people to have as detailed knowledge of their libraries as I do of mine. Therefore my system that works well for me might not be appropriate for others.
If you have a small library it really does not matter much but if you have a large library then each person should decide what makes the most sense to them.
I like large libraries to keep the number way down others like a lot of smaller libraries. Everyone must decide what is best for them and what is best fo one may actually be the worst setup for others.
Greetings, My personal preference for movies is Year folders, so all my movies from 2017 are in one folder, etc… My folders range from 1930 to 2018, while I rarely browse my library in folder mode, my downloader/renamer program adds the year folder and then moves it to that folder. For TV shows, I just use the name of the show as the folder, with season folders inside. This has worked for me, my library is currently about 4000 movies, 153 active of 378 tv shows.
I too am a firm believer in collections especially movies. Given that you can customize and create collections so the main page is not cluttered. Separating items in different folders could cause issues when trying to watch a series that contains movies and animated movies (Reddick and Star Wars storylines come to mind)
I have never had an issue watching the next movie of a series, collections is one way, but also after a movie is done, there is a screen with related movies, and I just choose the next one in the series. As elijah said, its all a matter of personal preference, I was just offering how I do it, I like the year for folders. (Note: only saw this thread because I was looking to change my audio folder setup)
edit: I run about 7 libraries, I have AmbientTV, AudioBooks, Live Comedy & Concerts, Movies, Music, TV Shows, Workout.
