"Original Quality" choice when optimizing files

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5663
Player Version#: Multiple

Forgive me if this has been asked, but I’m just not finding the answer. I understand why the server has to transcode files before it can play on some devices, but I’m confused by a some of the settings if I have the server optimize the files.

Mainly, it’s the “Original Quality” choice that’s in the optimize window. What does it change if you select that option? Does it keep the audio and video quality where they are, and just convert them into a format that more devices can use? The files could be getting played on a Roku TV or a Fire TV, so I want to get them converted before the server even attempts to send them over to the TV so it can Direct Play as much as possible.

Related to this, I want to optimize them on the server, as I’m making the not best choice by running it on a Raspberry Pi 4, on Raspberry Pi OS. It buffers anytime it has to convert while playing, but it able to play anything it can direct play with no problem. I want to keep it as high quality as possible when I optimize it, but still have it be able to Direct Play when possible. Direct stream might work as well, but I haven’t tried it yet.

It just means that it aims for a similar video bandwidth as the original file had.
Still, any conversion from one lossy compression method to another lossy compression method will bring – err – losses. However so slight.
