Server Version#:1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: Chrome 94.0.4606.81 and Plex for windows 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78
Hey Guys, Running plex svr 1.24.5.5173 currently. Been fighting what I thought was an antenna or tuner problem where plex is not playing live OTA channels properly. Recorded TV does playback works properly for the most part. Tried swapping and doubling up with antennas. Then switched from a 2 channel Hauppauge internal card to a plex approved WinTV Quad HD USB - no improvement. Using the Hauppauge WinTV 10 app to test playback looks to work great per the image below (error in image is ‘Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna’) and plex live tv tests fail using chrome on my server or a Win10 Plex app that has been more reliable. Has anyone else run into this and found a solution? Thanks
Note that the Hauppauge software and Plex TV/DVR might not get along – both trying to control the tuners. So if you haven’t already, make sure that you close the hauppauge player and stop the HauppaugeTVServer service (services can be managed from from Administrative Tools in the control panel). After the hauppauge stuff has been closed/stopped, try launching the Plex Media Server.
Yes and thank you for clarifying that. I should have specified that I am not trying to run these at the same time and that is not the cause of the playback error in plex.
A look at the error on a different windows machine and windows plex app. All Wintv apps confirmed closed on the server including an IR program in the system tray
From the way you worded your last post, it said you closed apps. The WinTV service runs in the background and has no visuals. It can only be stopped from the Services console in the control panel. You probably know that but just making sure. Most windows users don’t know much about services.
Why 3 Live TV & DVR’s ? Do you have 3 servers.
Hi Tiebierius, just one DVR. that behavior started after my last re-add of the DVR and I was hoping it would go away. I believe I reset the database TV files too but it still shows 3. Annoying.
Hey Moviewiz, I just killed the HauppaugeTVserver service and retried - no good per the error in the image. Thank you for the suggestion and I welcome more.
Check you Plex Media Server.log for db corruptions messages. If you can’t delete the DVR cleanly then it is possible it has left over tuning information from previous tuners and isn’t sending the right commands.
Also you cannot use the web app (either hosted or local) for live tv right now, there is a bug that kills the stream after 3 minutes if it works at all.
Thanks for that. I just looked over the attached log file and did not see anything corrupt searching for “corrupt” or “error” but I will be quick to admit I am no expert looking those over. I will try and re-add the DVR to try and get to additional Live TV entries out of there. You could be on to something with that issue of multiple DVRs. Will report back.
Plex Media Scanner.log (1.7 MB)
I have two Happauge Dual tuner USB devices. I found that after a while Plex would not be able to contact the devices. I suspected an issue with windows USB operation and perhaps memory fragmentation. Rebooting would correct the issue. It could also have been the motherboard of the server I was using. Switched to a new server (HP based) and have not had any issues for weeks recording multiple programs every day.
Thanks freemgl. This issue of connecting to the card has only been recent for me and maybe due to recent plex updates but will certainly consider the mobo swap if things get worse. I am hoping to get the quality dialed in on the scheduled recordings. In the mean time I have set a program in the Wintv app to record tonight and canceled the plex entry to see what happens.
Updating this. I completed a DVR removal and re-add last week. No more multiple entries so things look much better. I also removed a recurring Plex recording and added the same program in WinTV. The recording quality of that recording is amazing where the Plex recordings of the same program are choppy and unwatchable. My server is still on 1.24.5.5173. So still trying to figure out if others are 1) Having OTA playback trouble with the plex app but the tuner player works properly (this may not be limited to Hauppauge products) … and I am adding 2) Are others having the same experience with scheduled recording quality and are switching to an alternate method? I guess I will switch all my regularly recorded TV shows to winTV in the interim which seems silly to me.
Ok Guys so here we are 6 weeks after my original post. I did a live TV playback test last night on a couple channels - just clocking and no playback. This was done on an Apple TV 4k box which has been occasionally more reliable than the Chrome browser playback that still appears broken (and per the @pl_5309 comment above 11-6). I have various OTA shows scheduled to record on the Hauppauge WinTV app that record straight to my TV folder which has been a truly reliable workaround and wonderful playback quality however I do miss the Plex commercial removal with those which has worked well. Anyone else experiencing this and Plex support - is this being worked on? I can’t imagine I am the only one.
