When using OTA Live TV and DVR, I have Subtitles automtically shown. But recently they started showing only the NETWORK and SHOW name and not the actually Closed Captions or Subtitels. This happens very time I start a show, skip ahead or skip commercials. E ach time, disable subtitles and re-enable subtitles and it works fine until the next skip/start.
The client appears to be irrelevant. I happens on Windows, Browser, Roku & Fire TV Stick.
This is another behavior I’ve seen with newer recordings. Seems to be mostly on recordings/live TV from HD channels. You may want to check my post below, which fixes this for recordings played back later. It won’t fix live TV though.
If you find a solution to make Plex work as is, I’ll be interested in it but I wasn’t able to.
I am running on Linux and having trouble installing ccextractor so, not currently an option. I think I see the problem. I tried using ffmpeg. In some instances it works, and others it does not. I uploaded to windows and compared ccextractor and ffmpeg. ccextractor gets them right, but ffmpeg does not. I don’t know if it is a problem with the Transport Stream file, or the way Plex interprets CCs. But if I view the TS file with VLC, it shows CCs properly - so I suspect it is a decoding problem.
Here is an example of a CC that was extracted using FFMPEG. This line is repeated continually.
Yes, I should have added . . . I also started with trying to use FFMPEG and had the same results you did. That’s when I went looking and found CCExtractor. I replied with a bit more Info on the other thread. Good luck.
