EDIT: The episode descriptions and titles are criss-crossed and need to be swapped; the videos themselves are in order. Season 1 Episode 21 should read “Dancing on the Razor” and have its description swapped with Season 1 Episode 22, the finale, which should read “A Breed Apart.”
The best way would be you sign up to TheTVDB and correct this. Give it a few days for the changes to become available in Plex.
Then edit the show at its top level, on the Advanced tab, and the episode order to “DVD”. Then Refresh Metadata.
I don’t understand what “correct this” means. The titles and descriptions in Plex do not match the videos played in Plex. Since TVDB does not control the video files Plex shows, I don’t see how that is a problem that can be solved on TVDB. Are you suggesting that the DVD order be completed on TVDB and then the Plex support team edits the episode order to match “DVD” internally?
It’s possible you were responding before I edited the post. It turns out the videos are accurate in the order they are in, but the description and titles do not match the actual episode that plays, which is a problem that Plex should be capable of fixing by swapping the video files. True, they will be out of show-order, but they will be consistent at least. I agree that ideally the descriptions would be consistent with the video files played and the videos would be in order; I just don’t understand the proposed solution as stated in my first paragraph.
Not sure you read Otto’s response to the end. TheTVDb.com has listed the episodes as:
21. A Breed Apart
22. Dancing on the Razor
If you identified a files as season 1, episode 21, Plex will download the matching metadata for that episode – A Breed Apart. Plex cannot know you switched the episodes, even if this is considered the “correct” order. Plex has no own concept of what a “correct” order should be… it depends on the input it gets from TheTVDb.
Hence Otto’s remark:
If you feel this is the wrong order, you’ll need to change the data at its source (this probably requires dealing with whoever entered the episodes in that particular sequence). Alternatively you could manually edit/overwrite the data of those 2 episodes according to your liking.
Side note… while TheTVDb.com, IMDb.com disagree with your point of view, it seems like the show is listed in the order you have in mind on Wikipedia and The Movie Database. That gives you a 3rd option… you could manually match the show, using The Movie Database as agent instead.
I really feel like I’m being misunderstood here. The episode listed as Season 1 Episode 21, “Dancing on the Razor” on Plex plays Season 1 Episode 22 “A Breed Apart.” If you watch Episode 21, at 3:48, it shows the title and that title is for Episode 22 (not to mention the whole episode is not what is advertised on Plex). And vice-versa for Season 1 Episode 22. Based on the input of Season 1 Episode 21, why would Plex be pulling a video that does not match the description or title? Are you suggesting that’s normal behavior? It still sounds like it’s a Plex problem that can be fixed on Plex.
Edit: And furthermore, how am I as a user supposed to “manually match the show?” I don’t work for Plex, and I have no earthly idea how to do that. That’s actually quite offensive to me as a user to get two responses to a problem both of which tell me an incomplete, poorly explained and roundabout solution of which the onus is on me. How is that customer service?
Edit Again: Okay, what I’m hearing is that the episode files are labeled Season 1 - Episode 21 or some such. Then, that pulls from TheTVDb.com, which does not match and is not run by Plex. So is it possible to change the filenames of the videos? Swapping them would match the meta information Plex is currently pulling. Or is it possible as you said to link to a different service other than TheTVDb.com? It’s not my responsibility to re-write TheTVDb.com; it’s my expectation that the episodes on Plex are accurately listed. I don’t even care about the order as much as the episode that plays doesn’t match the description. It’s probably not just a problem on this one show, and certainly you can’t police the metadata. But, since this is nonetheless a negative customer experience, is there anything the Plex team can do to correct that?
Are you watching via “Movies & TV -> On Plex”? I see that Mutant X IS available there.
99% of the time when people ask for help it’s about their own files, on their servers, and how to get them named & matched up correctly. I believe that was the confusion. There probably should be a better forum to raise this type of issue.
And I agree with what you’re observing. The videos themselves appear to be reversed.
Thank you. Yes, I am watching via Movies & TV -> On Plex. I did not realize there was an option to host one’s own files on Plex. I’ve only used the app.plex.tv website to watch shows. That might account for all of the misunderstanding. Is there a specific forum that might better contextualize the issue?
Tom, thanks. Honestly didn’t occur to me that we were talking about two totally different things, but glad we figured out the disconnect. Or rather, someone did, @Volts.
I appreciate yours and Otto’s taking the interest in this and trying to help.
Edit: So looks like you can just pop your DVDs in on Plex and make your library virtual? That’s pretty cool.
