Wrong listings on some TV shows. Episodes out of order, wrong title

I have 2 shows that it is not showing the information correctly. One is Tron Uprising. I have all episodes listed similar to this Tron Uprising Season 01 Episode 01 - Beck’s Beginning.mp4
But when looking at the Plex directory of this season, It thinks this is episode one
Tron Uprising Season 01 Episode 02 - The Renegade - Part I (Part 1 of 2).mp4
Another one similar is Rockos Modern life, it sometimes confuses the episodes with a different title or mixed episodes and seasons.
Every other show did this way worked fine. These are the 2 with the largest issues
When looking at the files it is using, its using one that is correct and one that is incorrect.

Tron Uprising (2012) S01E01 - Beck’s Beginning

Plex does not like the whole word spelled out “Season or Episode”

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

True, Its just interesting how every other show is in the same format and only have issues with these 2 shows.
And looking for ways to edit the show title or label it in the correct possiton
Never mind its doing it with a few other shows as well.
But the episodes are in the correct places, such as Firefly
Firefly Season 01 Episode 01 - Serenity.mp4 is in the episode one possition, But the title on Plex says The Train Job and it plays The Train Job, but in the info it says Serenity

Shows like Cloak and Dagger in same format show up correctly

Also checked others and most of them are correct ST Discovery is good on all seasons.

Renamed and its still giving the wrong title in plex.
Season 1 episode 3 of Rockos modern life Plex says Leap Frogs but it is not this video.
Rockos Modern Life - S01E03 - Rocko’s Modern Life Season 01 Episode 03 Jetscream Dirty Dog.mp4

Plex is naming the episodes to match the TVDB.
You may have named them originally according to some other source.

TVDB lists Jet Scream as episode 5, and Dirty Dog as episode 6

If you have that episode combined you have to name it S01E05E06 for it to display properly

They are not combined ,
It looks like labeling them as S01E03 is doing nothing.
Just like Tron Uprising , it is doing nothing when the season rename its still placing them out of order and mislabeling them
Tron Uprising - S01E01 - Season 01 Episode 01 Beck’s Beginning.mp4 is not The Renagade part one episode 1

What source do you have that says Tron Uprising s01e01 is Beck’s Beginning?

Plex pulls the metadata for episodes from the TVDB or TMDB. Neither one lists them the way you have them.

Changing the name behind s01e01 is not going to do anything. It will still match it to those sources

Plex doesn’t care about the title of your files themselves. Plex ONLY looks for a season/episode number, and then compares that to online sources like TVDB or TheMovieDB. Each episode must use the numbering from the sites like TVDB.

Tron Uprising has “The Renegade” parts 1 and 2 as episodes 1 and 2. Since you labeled your first episode “Tron Uprising Season 01 Episode 01 - Beck’s Beginning.mp4” Plex ignored ALL of that, saw TVDB title for episode 1 is “Renegade Part 1” and set the info based on that.

I’ll wager you have the same issue with all these other shows being incorrect. Either change the numbers of your episode files to match TVDB, or use embedded tags and tell Plex to prioritize embedded metadata. You will need high quality metadata tags on all your media to do this.

If you rename the episode files, btw, you must plex dance them afterwards. Plex will detect the in-place rename operation, and will not re-download metadata for the file under its new name.

To avoid having to plex dance, move the files OUT of the location monitored by Plex, rename them, then move them back.

All say Becks Beginning is correct as first episode.

Ok I will look at this and see what I can do

Becks Beginning does come first

TVDB has it listed as a special.

Put it in a S00 or Season 0 folder separate from your Season 1 folder and label it s00e01

That worked for that one, Thanks, now to sort the other ones that are incorrect

The only way you can change the name plex gives you for the episode is by changing the number in your file.

Google the TVDB and search the show you’re trying to match. You have to just forget the s01e01 names you have in the file and match it to what the TVDB says for the title of the episode.

This is what I did on Tron Uprising and it worked.
Looks like all episodes were shifted because of episode 0.
I think most shows are ok, but those may be shifted as well. Hopefully not too many.

Yeah, it can be a real pain, especially when you acquire a new show source. DVDs tend to have a wildly different episode order than the TVDB or other sites, which default to/prefer “Aired” dates. So, sometimes I have to actually WATCH each episode enough to determine the episode name, then compare that to TVDB to figure out the episode number.

I really like the shows that have the episode name in the start of the episode. And I really hate the ones that do NOT include the name, forcing me to skip around comparing the images to some online description of the episode plot.

If you try to name episodes of the show NOVA…

TVDB, TMDB, Wiki, and IMDB all have them named differently. They even show the same episodes in entirely different seasons. It was a nightmare honestly. lol

I use an app called Rename My TV Series 2

That’s the download page. If you have a lot of shows to rename it’s something worth checking out.

Inside the app your search results come directly from TVDB and you can rename entire seasons or shows in a few clicks.

FileBot will fix your naming conventions and matching so it syncs to Plex correctly. It’s worth the money for a license.

Does it match based on the video content itself, or just the filename?

Because I use Rename My TV Series 1 currently and it works fine (didn’t know they updated it), but it is a heck of a manual process when the files have no episode names.

Always the file name. Never the content. And particularly in the case of tv shows, folder names.

There is a method in Plex to re-recognize a renamed file (based on a checksum of the file’s header). But that doesn’t work under all circumstances.

I was replying to sixxnet’s post about Filebot. I’m trying to understand why people pay for a license for it when the free program Rename My TV Series works.
