Oversaturated colours in Samsung Smart TV Plex app

I have Plex for Samsung 4.25.2 running on my Samsung LED 50KU6000 TV. Up until about a week ago, it was working fine. I didn’t run the app in the intervening time since I also have Apple TV and I usually run that. But for the last week or so, the colours of all content on the Plex app on the TV are severely oversaturated.

At first, I thought it was a problem with just 4K content, but I’ve tried it with different resolutions and gotten the same result. I tried playing the same content off Apple TV onto the same Samsung TV and also via USB drive and the colours are perfectly fine.

Other apps (like Netflix) played off the Smart TV are also fine. The problem is localised to the Plex app.

I am including 2 photographs of the same frame taken using my iPhone of the TV screen under the same lighting conditions. One is from the Samsung plex app and the other is from the Plex app running off Apple TV on the same Samsung TV.

As you can see, one is very distinctly oversaturated compared to the other.

I thought this was just me / the files I was playing. Switching from a 4K HDR version of a film, to a 1080p was resulting in skin tones looking ridiculously red. Figured it was the 1080p version but haven’t tested an alternative yet. This is all done with direct play or direct stream so transcoding isn’t the issue.

Yes, seen this too - although just with 1080p content. 4k is okay.

As per the previous comment, it becomes really noticeable when watching a 4k HDR film and then putting the 1080p version on. (both taken from the original disks). The 4k version is definitely playing with HDR.

There’s a TV setting under (Picture->Expert Settings->Colour Space) and I find that when watching 1080p films under Plex, I switch between Native and Auto in order to get the colour levels right. (some films seem to like native, some auto).
