OwnCloud/NextCloud Support for Cloud Storage?

Just curious if anyone would also be interested in the capability for Plex to tie into OwnCloud/NextCloud and other self hosted cloud storage alternative platforms? Not sure if this is something the devs are looking into, or if maybe we can drum up enough interest to push the idea.

Personally, I’ve migrated the majority of the services i use to self-hosted alternatives. Tying into a self-hosted cloud storage system like NextCloud would make media management seamless, easy and very clean. I imagine this is one of the drivers behind enabling Plex to talk to Dropbox and the others it already supports. To me, adding support for self-hosted platforms would be the icing on an already amazing cake. Any interest from anyone else?

defeats the idea of using cloud to get it off premises.

ideal plex server with 200 TB storage the size of a credit card fits in your wallet

I think most people that want Plex Cloud want to eliminate the need to have a computer or NAS running. All of the self-storage systems require those same devices turned on in order to access them. And then you also need something to handle the transcoding that may be required.

I use OwnCloud on my NAS, so very familiar with how it works, and how to make it do things with apps that weren’t designed for network traffic. I can’t see the benefits of using OwnCloud over just storing the data on the NAS in a normal Plex accessed library. (I also run PMS on the same NAS, but it has a bit more stuffings than typical most NASes have…)

Using a locally stored cloud provider does defeat the idea of Plex Cloud, IMO… For this cloud service, I honestly think you are better off without the Cloud layer complicating things.

agreed why I have VPS and online storage . so i do not have to rely on my house being up i dont keep a 99.9 SLA on my house’s internet and power . but the data center i run stuff out off does

Owncloud integration would be nice, Any updates on this?

+1, it would be nice to have a ‘self hosted’ option that it could then be down to the user wether this is located at home, in a datacenter or even in somebody elses ‘cloud’ as a VPS…
