I live by the philosophy that ‘a cloud is just another guys computer’, so therefore i ask. Will plex add support for Owncloud ?
If it is a Linux server you can just use SSHFS.

So you mean that Plex Cloud already supports SSHFS ?
But why?
If you are using OwnCloud then the data is at your house. If you try and watch something from your own home you will have to stream the file from OwnCloud to the CloudPlex box and then back to your client. Highly inefficient.
If you are streaming to a friend there is still “extra” pieces in the way. Why not add the server next to the storage and keep things efficient?

Oh i’m not planning on actually using the feature, just exploring options.
Personally, I wouldn’t be interested in having a cloud server needing to grab local data but I can imagine a use case. For example, I’m running Plex on my Drobo. Potentially plenty of storage, but a weak server, to say the least. Basically, it would be like getting a free server upgrade.

I use NextCloud, which is a more stable and much better upgrade to OwnCloud. This is installed on my hardware and uses my internet connection to make my data available to me anywhere in the world at the click of a button, link or opening an app. As long as my home has an internet connection I have access to my data. (Just as I did when I used OwnCloud.)
So how would setting up PMS to use the same device your data already sits on, but adding in another application to access it improve your PMS experience?
Having used OwnCloud (and now NextCloud) for the past 4 years or so, I can’t see ANY use case for it as a Cloud provider at all… Enlighten me, please?
They don’t really understand how this would work in the real world.
Imagine having blu-ray type rips or high bitrate files in your storage and the client request a 720 4MB version. Now imagine 3 clients streaming from your cloud server with similar settings. Your personal cloud (owncloud/nextcloud) would still have to serve up the high bit rate original files which could saturate your upload bandwidth.
Totally misses out on the advantage of running your own server and only streaming what the client needs.

Just out of interest (non plex related) what benefits do you see from Nextcloud - you mention stability?
I have been an owncloud user myself for many years and am aware of the split but have not had time to fully the differences and have not been pushed to by any stability issues.
