Panasonic TV from supported list actually not supported?

Server Version 1.28.1.6104:
Player Version 5.44.6:
Device: Panasonic TV TH-40GX700Z (2019, New Zealand)

Hi, the TV is on the list of supported devices (https://support.plex.tv/articles/204080173-which-smart-tv-models-are-supported/), yet it does not play a single h265/HEVC UHD (4K, HDR,…) content without transcoding to 1080p. There is a native Plex app on the TV with the latest firmware and the TV is on thee list of supported TVs.

  • When play using the TV Plex app, the server uses “Plex for Smart TVs — Generic” profile and keeps transcoding all content.

  • When I use DLNA, it uses “Generic” profile and keeps transcoding AC3 and AAC, and h265/HEVC to h264 1080p.

  • When I use a DLNA profile adjusted specifically for the TV, it runs the profile, and yet it starts transcoding. It even transcodes 1080p h264 to 1080p h264. This is really strange. I used a similar DLNA profile on an older Panasonic TV, and it always worked.

The adjusted profile for the TV – it runs the profile, but keeps transcoding anyway.

What is wrong with Plex? (both, DLNA and the app)

Thanks

It is on the list of devices with Limited Support, which means that

Specific Playback Capabilities

The “Plex for Smart TVs” app supports the following limited capabilities for video and audio playback.

Video:

  • Bit Rate: 4Mbps max
  • Resolution: 1080p max
  • Bit Depth: 8
  • Codec: H.264
  • Container: mp4, mpegts, mov
  • Audio: AAC, 2 channels

is the maximum what you can direct play with this app. So HEVC, 4k, or HDR is out of the question, I’m afraid.

I see, but why does the DLNA profile not work? (And it worked on an older TV)

Any idea why the DLNA profile does not work, or why it transcodes everything?

I can send you my server logs if it helps.
