This might be a long shot, but for us parents with young kids, it would be great if Plex could modify the playback of movies to ‘parent approved’ videos. What I mean is if a movie is rated R, due to nudity, then on playback it would just auto-skip that scene.
Maybe Plex could scan the video and use AI to identify bad words and naked scenes? Then maybe on playback in parent approved mode you could mute the audio when bad words are said and just auto-skip nude scenes?
It’s a tough request, but think it would really add a ton of value for plexpass users. Thank you
Not sure how that would work, above my paygrade but for my grandson, we have a home account for him setup so that only shows/movies with a LABEL that happens to be his first name, show up under his account, that way we can hand pick content for him. Settings → Users & Sharing → Edit their account → Restrictions Tab → then under MOVIES or TV SHOWS in the field “Only Allow Labels” enter a label, like their first name or whatever… Then in the library, click the Pencil button (for TV Shows, do it from the top level, the show itself, not an episode or season. Click the SHARING sidebar tab and enter the LABEL you entered above. We did this because some shows are NR or whatever but are kid shows and even so, this way we control 100% of what he gets access to. Hope this helps even if it is a bit askew from your request.
There already exists a feature suggestion for a profanity filter (e.g. based on scanning subtitles).
As for blocking individual scenes… are you sure you want to expose your kids to a hard-core porn or bloody horror film… just blurring/skipping the bad scenes?!
Plex has a number of parental controls. Mainly focusing on kids with their own managed account (as explained by crhatfield). Those target to define what movies your kid can see – not to filter individual scenes.
One example is to manually label movies you want your kid to be able to see (and then having a managed user that’s only allowed to see movies tagged that way).
Alternatively you can assign a “restriction profile” to such an account that restricts the account to movies approved for certain age groups (available profiles are small kid, kid, teen and no-restrictions). https://support.plex.tv/articles/parental-controls/
Nice, the profanity filter is a neat request as well. Hey, it’s a start
In terms of your question on exposing my kids to bad scenes and just skip them. Yes, obviously it won’t be a hard core porn film but right now we are watching shows like Westworld or even Sense8, and scenes come up every so often where we had to manually fast forward. Those are the use cases I am talking about. Great shows, sometimes we need to fast forward. I already have a kids profile with the correct restrictions, this would be more automatic for when the ‘family’ wants to watch a movie and the parents don’t have to worry about it. Right now the wife and I go parent previews to help make a choice.
