My kids are currently obsessed with Guardians of the Galaxy, but I won’t let them watch the movie just yet as there are a couple of scenes that would likely be too mature for them (and some language I’d rather they didnt start picking up just yet). It got me to thinking.
It would be great if I could have a Plex mode that lets me just not play scenes of my choice when a movie is on, and maybe even add my own bleep noises to cover certain parts of the audio like some TV channels do when showing movies on TV.
While this would be a great feature to allow parents to make “almost kid friendly” movies suited to their children (hey, every kid is different and have different triggers for upset), it would also be great for my own little movie choices so I could skip scenes of movies I just plain don’t like or cut down a movie into scenes I really do like (with some effort I could even make the Star Wars prequel trilogy watchable).
None of this would require actually recoding or cutting of a movie file, it would just be telling Plex to start/stop play at certain timecodes and add a random beep at particular moments of a movie. Hopefully not a massive development project required for that.
