I bought Plex Pass almost entirely for the Passout Protection, but it is not working. I have tried it on two different Apple TVs and tried streaming different TV shows, but it still stops playing after 2 hours.
I found earlier posts where this was a known issue if you had your Auto Play Countdown set to Immediately, but mine is set to 10 seconds.
On my TV the sleep settings are on the TV settings itself. Is that where you’re changing the settings?
Same issue here. I’ve tried everything up to and including deleting and reinstalling the app.
Have any luck fixing this?
Edit: I found a thread that says this might only work if playing a collection or playlist. We play random episodes of a tv show at night. I’ll try making a playlist.
I’m a new Plex user, have no real reason yet to start buying extras like a Plex Pass. But I’ve discovered that if I’m playing a 7 hour long music playlist, Plex stops streaming… somewhere about two to four hours into the play. Been doing this for a few weeks, but I’ve not paid attention to exact time. Today, it stopped mid-play on a long playlist; then, it decided to stop an hour into a movie.
Hunting about tonight, I come across Passout Protection. I can’t even find a place in Settings to change it, even to see if it’s currently set to something like a two hour default.
Am I reading things correctly, and I have to pay extra to get a streaming media player here that will start my playlist and just keep going as long as the list – or the movie – or a set of stacked episodes or parts of a movie are supposed to play for?
Plex Server is installed on a Windows 11 Pro laptop, media storage drives direct connected to it (USB); WiFi connect to stream to Samsung TV or to Samsung Android phone which Bluetooths to a CD player (so I don’t have to have the TV on just for music). I don’t think any of the media is requiring transcoding, but I’m not sure where to look for that.
Any workarounds that stay working? (For example: if I set an alarm on my phone for 110 minutes, and when it goes off, I go into an idle copy of Plex or Plexamp on the phone, just open a playlist… since I’m the only user, no matter how many devices I’m logged in on, will that reset the passout clock? Nuisance, but if it works…)
Thanks!
I am also having this issue on the Apple TV app version 8.45 (9684) running tvOS 26.0.1. Passout protection is disabled with auto play set to 5 seconds. Series still stop after two hours.
As an aside; this is one of the most annoying ‘features’ of Plex, it’s my media on my TV running from my server on my home network using my electricity, if I want it to play for 48 hours straight that should be up to me.
