I have recently encountered my Plex system stopping any media at 2hrs when that media is longer than 2hrs. I am streaming through my home PC, running plex server on a dedicated computer connected to NAS device with media… Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
That… should only apply to auto-playing multiple episodes in a row after 2 hours of inactivity… A 2 hour video should not stop playback in the middle of the media.
Unless I am mis-interpreting jtut’s question, and it is stopping after 2 hours of various other media?
Solution
So the solution. All that needs to be done is that one single default variable needs to be changed and it’s super easy. All you need to do is change/add the TranscoderDefaultDuration variable in the hidden server settings to however many minutes you want and that’s that. By default it’s 120 (minutes), hence the 2 hour cut out. You can follow the link here on how to change it for your specifications: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/
That variable should only affect unknown-length recordings. I have many 2+ hour movies and shows on my server and have no issue with transcoding from start to end.
Something is amiss with your media encoding I bet…
