Generally the recent changes to a higher default transcode/original playback settings are fine and work well. However, there is an issue with certain clients, such as web/browser based clients always needing to transcode x265/h265 10bit content, and that very often ends up causing a 3-6mbit file to be transcoded to 10-20mbit as far as I can tell. A family member always uses browser on phone or their computer.
Setting an “overall” max remote bitrate to 8mbit, still results in this, but also causes other clients that otherwise would’ve played back a 5-8mbit file to also transcode (perhaps because it detects peak bitrate instead of average?)
Please, is there any way, or intention by the devs to allow admins to set a per client bitrate limit, it could be tucked away under “advanced” settings or something… as I’d like to force web/browser based clients to always transcode to a lower bitrate without affecting every other client interaction.
