Performance issues when accessing TV Shows

Server Version#: 1.43.0.10492
Player Version#: 1.112.0.359-0d79a49f
I’m seeing issues when I attempt to view the TV Shows listings for TV shows on my local NAS. On the server, I can pull up all the TV Shows, but on any client (Windows or Android) machine they only way I can see the TV Shows I have, is to filter them by a category so the player client has a shorter list to retrieve. Is I don’t filter, I get an “Oops, something went wrong” message after the connection times out. I’ve checked my scheduled tasks and database maintenance is happening nightly. The timeout doesn’t seem to be time of the day specific and my ping/response times to both the server and the NAS are excellent. Viewing the Movies listing works fine.

Is there a way to either change the timeout or reduce the amount of data the server is calling for when clicking on the TV Shows listing menu?

First thing to check is if the server database is damaged.

  1. ensure the drive which holds the Plex data folder (by default C:) has plenty of free space left
  2. stop Plex server using the Windows task tray Plex icon
  3. run the .bat file https://github.com/ChuckPa/DBRepair/tree/master/Windows

Thanks Otto…. There’s about 92Gb free on the drive. I stopped Plex by the task tray icon and ran the .bat. I assume it’s normal that it take a while to run? It’s sitting at “Exporting Main DB”.

Definitely.
Though it should not take hours – unless your original db file is still affected by an older issue where it balloons in size.
How large is the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db file on your server?

I’m seeing a few of those DB files… I’m guessing they’re backups. If so, it was 7.7Gb and the current one is 311kb

Yes, there are 3 backups of the file in there, each with an added date on the file name. You can use them to revert catastrophic database changes: https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/

Is this after the repair script has run to completion?
The stark difference in size is a bit suspicious. Or is your media collection still very small?

According to Plex I have 111 titles in the TV Show menu. That figure is after the DB cleanup. So far it looks like it fixed the issue but I’ll test it better tonight.

While I have you here, is there a help article about how to read the logs? I’ve downloaded them before but it’s not clear what log is for what purpose. I have an audio folder that Plex refuses to find no matter what I do and I’d like to see if I can find it in the logs and troubleshoot it.

Good, if you don’t miss any items or metadata, all should be well.

Sorry, there is none. The logs are primarily intended for developers. Issues with recognizing newly added media items should show up first in the scanner logs though (after a library scan has been triggered and finished, that is).

Plex is a bit special when it comes to music.
It definitely requires more preparation of your files and their metadata. Simply pointing Plex to a folder full of unsorted/mixed music files will most likely not get you the result you are expecting.
See Albums appearing with incorrect artist and unable to change it - #2 by OttoKerner for a starter.

Currently you don’t need to expect a music library to show up in the (new) mobile apps. They simply don’t support them yet. Use Plexamp instead.
