Personal Medi

I have a set of DVDs that I want to add into plex that are bunch of cartoon shorts. I figured the easiest way was to add them as a show. I tried to load them on TVDB but they declined because it said that it does not meet their criteria. I know I can go in and modify the individual items but I have 3 servers. So as far as I understand it, I would have to do this individually for each server. Is there anyway to I can do this once and have my other servers respect the metadata?

Thanks

If you can’t add to thetvdb then I’d suggest you use MP4 files and embed the metadata into each file. That way all your servers will use the same exact data from each file creating the “same” series.

Exporting/importing from the plex db would be a catastrophic PITA.
Doable, yes. But a total trichotillomania!!!

Which cartoon is it? It might already be on TheTVDB, just not in the same order as on your DVDs.

I checked, the only version on their has many of the dates in the wrong order. Not sure where they came up with them but it does not match any source I could find.

As far as embedding metadata. Any suggestions on a good tool? I actually use M4V which I believe also allow for embedding metadata.

You are correct, it does.

So I embedded the episode titles for my shows and it will not pull that info. I set up everything else as a local asset and that is working. Just can not get that title to come in. Any suggestions?

Did you match this show to the Personal Media Shows agent, before adding any metadata manually?
Could you post the content of the Plex XML info of one episode please?

That’s an MKV file, not a MP4.
Plex can only read metadata from mp4/m4v files.

Of course it does.

Thanks for your quick response.

Is there anyway to pull the title from the local media asset name? I see that in the example under support articles they include the title in the file name. Is that just for future reference or should it pull from there?

No.
That is just for human reference.

Can’t you just peruse this list and take the season and episode numbers from there:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/disney-animated-shorts/seasons/all

Gallopin’ Gaucho would be s1928e17

Since I just have a collection of Mickey Mouse episodes, I would have a lot of seasons each with only a few episodes. That list is everything that Disney made during those years. Mickey is a fraction of it.

That should still work fine. I have a few items (like The Little Rascals (the originals from the 20s-30s) or the Carol Burnett ‘Lost episodes’ wherein I only have a few random episodes from each season. I find the corresponding episode in the TVDB, label that file accordingly, and just go. Plex will recognize the season and episode properly and only list the episodes I actually have with all the proper metadata.
