Personal Media Files folder structures

I’m desperately trying to consolidate my video players (used WDTV forever). I’ve finally migrated almost entirely to Plex but I have a bunch of random ‘stuff’ that I just want to use the personal media files library for (Cartoons, concerts, home movies, sporting events, etc). I just want to be able to put them in their own folders and share that a single library. No matter what I do the folder structure isn’t honored. I just mashes everything together. I’m absolutely fine having no metadata for any of this stuff and it reflecting whatever goofy name it has but I just want it separated by folder. Plex obviously has this capability, every movie, TV Show/Season is honored as having it’s own folder, why can’t my personal media.

I’m not a power user and I get there are a million things people want but this seems to be the most basic of functions. Do I really have to create an entire library for every individual folder? I don’t want to clog up my dashboard with 30 different libraries to have to scroll through to get to the stuff we use regularly. Am I missing something?

Edited to add: I’ve tried to map to a single, top level folder with subfolders and I’ve tried to add each folder individually within the same library. Everything mashes it all together.

If I’m understanding your question correctly–and forgive me if I’m not–your only issue is your sort type. You didn’t say what client you’re using, but what you want is ‘folder’ sort.

Here’s an example in the web client:

EDIT
For some odd reason, this isn’t the default sort type for personal videos (which is dumb), so you will need to change it for every client you use. But once you do, it should work as you’re describing.

DOH!!! My god man, thank you. If it was a snake it would have bit me. I’ve got all sorts of clients, but tried it on my Windows PC and sure enough, I see 2 distinct folders. I ran across a couple of official Plex posts saying it’d all be consolidated so I got discouraged quickly. Thanks so much!

I’m glad that was was the correct solution. I remember having the exact same frustration/confusion for the same reason. It’s a bad default, since they realize ‘personal videos’ won’t have metadata and will probably just be random junk put in folders.
