Right now I can access Plex from one Roku, but not from another. I also cannot access Plex from the android app on my phone or from the web app. I am continuing to experiment with the pfsense settings, but am running out of ideas.
IF
the pfSense is your LAN -> WAN interface only
AND
You cannot connect from one device on your LAN to another device on your LAN
THEN
The problem is on your LAN not the pfSense
Equally
IF
the pfSense is bridging two LAN subnets
AND
devices are spread across subnets
THEN
the pfSense forwarding/bridging configuration is flawed
I am able to connect directly from my laptop to the Synology box using Windows Explorer by entering \ds916.home.lan\ and logging in with my username and password. I can also access Synology DSM via https://ds916.home.lan:5001/. However, when I use Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox and navigate to https://ds916.home.lan:32400/web/index.html I am able to login to my Plex account, but either the Plex Server is not found (“Looking for Servers…”) or I see a message saying “The server ‘ds916’ is unavailable”. This problem started when I installed the pfsense firewall.
this sounds like your server itself isn’t running correctly (can’t reach plex.tv)
What do the logs show?
Open the Plex share
drill down through Library until you see Logs
right click on Logs and Compress to Logs.zip
Prior to reading your message about the log files, I logged into DSM and saw that new versions of Plex and DSM were available. I downloaded and installed both. Installing DSM required a reboot. Now that everything is back up, Plex is working again. I don’t know if it was the upgrade or the reboot, but Plex appears to be operational. Sorry for the trouble. Thank you for the help.
I use pfsense 2.4.1-release and I do not have this issue.
I am on current Synology version (non beta) and current plex (pass) version
nas name is ds2
if I use https://ds2:32400/web/index.html# I connect very quickly, as does https://app.plex.tv/desktop
I do not have anypfsense anti-lockout/DNS rebind check disables, no alternate hostnames added.
under firewall NAT I have a port forward rule on 32400 for external access.
under firewall wan rules I have a corresponding rule for 32400
DNS forwarder is not enabled
DNS resolver is and I have the custom option
server:
private-domain:“plex.direct”
It works smoothly to
Internal: web, PMP on IOS, Android, PC and MAC, Roku Ultra
External:Web, PMP on IOS, PC, Roku stick
