Server keeps losing connection to plex.tv

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4921
Player Version#:
Ubuntu 18.04
Kernel: 4.15.0-153-generic

Is there a trick to getting Plex to work with Pfsense? That’s the only thing I can think of that’s causing me so many issues. It used to work flawlessly prior to 1.22.X, but things change. All I have set up for it is a port forward, pretty standard TCP/UDP for port 32400 - it’s worked for years. NAT and Upnp all function as expected.

My server’s been losing it’s connection to plex.tv frequently over the last two months and I can’t think of what else I can do on my end.
My router was reset to factory settings yesterday and the issue persists. I’m using Cloudflare for my DNS but I tried Google yesterday and still had a problem.

While my server is “inaccessible” port 32400 is still open according to canyouseeme.org for my IP. It remains inaccessible for upwards for 10 minutes before suddenly becoming accessible again out of the blue, or if I force a restart.

I’ve already started my server from scratch and upgraded the OS to Ubuntu 18.04LTS, so I don’t think it’s the database or metadata. My server itself is still fully functional otherwise, so I have no clue what the issue could be. My LAN is perfectly stable apart from Plex.

I do have multiple interfaces on my server, one being a 4 port bond, then I have a dual 10Gbe NIC and a iDRAC port which both have their own IP’s. In the logs I do see mention of the other subnets from those NIC’s, is it possible that Plex for some reason is switching to using one of the other NIC’s despite my setting the bond as preferred?

Do you guys not see anything on your end?

There is NO trick to getting Plex to work with pfSense other than having a stable LAN.

  1. Which pfSense product are you using and which version?
  2. I have a SG-2220 appliance and then built my own using CE release on an i7-3770k with 10 GbE bandwidth. It does deliver that very well .

It doesn’t blink.

Your LAN must be solid. “Pretty stable” is going to drive anything nuts.

2.5.2-RELEASE
FreeBSD 12.2-STABLE

It’s a custom built pc with an Intel(R) Core™ i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz and 1Gbps fiber internet. My router isn’t breaking a sweat and the rest of my network solid.

Had I known you have pSense, I’d have given you this a long time ago.

It will solve ALL the Plex issues

DNS Resolver - Custom options

server:
private-domain: "plex.direct"
so-reuseport: no

I had that already, I saw it in another forum post - didn’t make a difference. I’d held off on posting for about a week just to be sure there was nothing more on my end I could think of to do.
I’ve also disabled DNS over TLS just to see, and that didn’t help either.

I’ve switched over completely now to the router that came from my ISP to see if there’s any change.

Well, the issue isn’t my router - connection just dropped even using the stock router from my ISP. Must be an issue with the NIC on my server.
