I am a newby to plex and have setup each of my home photo folders as a separate library having only discovered that “albums” i.e. subfolders can be used as an alternative.
I’d like to discuss the pro’s and con’s of using Libraries versus Albums
I’ll start
Libraries
+ve Easy to set permissions for new users per library
+ve Timeline view per library (i.e. per folder)
-ve Untidy look having many libraries on main screen and on the main screens of client devices which may have a large scale on their app icons (for example samsung tv)
-ve Have to setup many libraries for subfolders
Albums
+ve Tidy look of main page, friendly for client devices with large icons
+ve Quick to setup 1 library and let plex create all the sub album (folders) beneath)
-ve difficult to manually set permissions for each album relevant to the level of access you want per user (as far as i can see this is the case)
-ve Timeline view only for the entire photo library, not per album
Feel free to chime in with to tell everyone how you setup your photo’s in plex including the pro’s and con’s
