I have used Plex for many years, and paid for the lifetime when it became the only way to share media, paid for the ability to view on mobile, and have rolled with the punches as they came.

Today when I got to work, started plex and was greeted with the latest update. It seems that the photo library is no longer accessible, and there is no Plex Photo app for firestick. My use at work as a tattoo artist, is to play music, and a slideshow of my work while clients are in the chair.

Photo has been tossed around, and neglected for quite a while, now it is gone from the main client? Not cool Plex.

I’m addition, played something from my music library, it reached the end of the album and stopped playback, and then I had no way to leave the album/track list screen, back and menu buttons did nothing, had to end task/restart.

The new “Home” screen and new layout is atrocious, and not user friendly.

I wouldn’t take the photo functionality of Plex seriously. That app has probably had 3 updates since it’s launch and the last update was on June 9th 2025. More than a year now. I would consider it forgotten or a low priority.

I never took it seriously, no customizations, transitions.. But it worked for what I needed it to.

Now I will have to look for something that can replace it.

Probably Immich if you want a real photo app. Or maybe Jellyfin if you want something similar to what Plex photos was offering but I don’t think it be any better
