I have been with Plex for several years. The new experience is horrible. Nevigating is not intuitive and is very clunky. The library scan does not seem to work. Even though I paid for a lifetime subscription i am considering switxhing platforms forever due to this new experience. I will give it until the next update before i decide. Please fix it. Thank you.
If you dislike it that much, just install an older version of the client and set your Firestick not to auto update apps.
This isn’t a matter of dislike; the app is currently broken. After a restart, it gets stuck on the ‘upcoming next’ screen, and navigation becomes impossible. The only workaround is to reboot the FireTV.
Overall, the entire app feels like a vibe-coded, wonky mess. There are just so many bugs. ![]()
And Dalmus, what kind of a suggestion is that? Seriously, WTF? Telling users to downgrade and block system updates just to fix a broken app is absolute nonsense.
There’s a reason for that…
How do you install an older version?
- Uninstall the current Plex app on your Fire TV.
- Find a downloader app on your Fire TV and install it.
- Grab the link for the Amazon APK from this link:
Plex for Android - #528 by chrisc - Use that link in the downloader app on Fire TV to download and then install the APK.
The new update is a total nightmare. I have no problem with the new UI. My problem is the massive number of bugs. Everything ran smoothly for more than a year: quick and responsive. Since the update, even just pressing play after pausing takes forever or causes the app to crash completely. After going into a TV show submenu, there’s a 1 in 3 chance I can’t get out of it at all. I have to restart the Fire TV since I can’t kill the app. It’s 3 times slower, crashes at least once every 2 hours, and it can take up to 20 seconds between pressing a button and the app registering it, if it registers at all. Guys, just fix it, this is a shame. Nobody cares about the UI if the basic functionality doesn’t even work. It used to be snappy, reliable, stable and responsive. Now it’s a hot mess and completely unusable on Fire TV. I want to go back.
