I have been with Plex for several years. The new experience is horrible. Nevigating is not intuitive and is very clunky. The library scan does not seem to work. Even though I paid for a lifetime subscription i am considering switxhing platforms forever due to this new experience. I will give it until the next update before i decide. Please fix it. Thank you.
If you dislike it that much, just install an older version of the client and set your Firestick not to auto update apps.
This isn’t a matter of dislike; the app is currently broken. After a restart, it gets stuck on the ‘upcoming next’ screen, and navigation becomes impossible. The only workaround is to reboot the FireTV.
Overall, the entire app feels like a vibe-coded, wonky mess. There are just so many bugs. ![]()
And Dalmus, what kind of a suggestion is that? Seriously, WTF? Telling users to downgrade and block system updates just to fix a broken app is absolute nonsense.
There’s a reason for that…
How do you install an older version?
- Uninstall the current Plex app on your Fire TV.
- Find a downloader app on your Fire TV and install it.
- Grab the link for the Amazon APK from this link:
Plex for Android - #528 by chrisc - Use that link in the downloader app on Fire TV to download and then install the APK.
The new update is a total nightmare. I have no problem with the new UI. My problem is the massive number of bugs. Everything ran smoothly for more than a year: quick and responsive. Since the update, even just pressing play after pausing takes forever or causes the app to crash completely. After going into a TV show submenu, there’s a 1 in 3 chance I can’t get out of it at all. I have to restart the Fire TV since I can’t kill the app. It’s 3 times slower, crashes at least once every 2 hours, and it can take up to 20 seconds between pressing a button and the app registering it, if it registers at all. Guys, just fix it, this is a shame. Nobody cares about the UI if the basic functionality doesn’t even work. It used to be snappy, reliable, stable and responsive. Now it’s a hot mess and completely unusable on Fire TV. I want to go back.
Absolutely right; if this new interface is the future, then Plex—or rather the Plex server—is history for me.
I have no idea who considers something like this user-friendly.
IS plex Support even listening? I have the same issue and have been using plex for over 10 years. PLEX please help..
I concur. It’s horrible. So sloooooowwww. Autoplay next episode in a series locks up the app, library organisation is atrocious for anyone with several categories or more than one server. Everything takes way more menu nav, with each button press sluggish to the point of uselessness. Urghh.
We don’t need a work around, we need a usable app. Right now I look pretty stupid telling people they should get their own plex, when I show off this mess.
Hey look, if I scroll up too many times, it goes all the way to the top of the library, instead of one row.
Raise the price and reduce the quality?
It’s called Enshitification and it’s all due to awful investors pushing the narrative and losing the plot entirely. Also poor leadership making bad decisions. Plex had a good run.
To your point about multiple servers, the new app is pulling libraries from a server I retired 4 or 5 years ago. I can’t even find a reference to it anywhere in my account. And I can’t remove them! It blew my mind when I saw the old server name attached to several libraries, and then if I continue scrolling down I’ll finally hit the libraries on the current server. I can’t remove them, I can’t reorganize the list.
What a Charlie Foxtrot… Plex Pass or not I’ll dump the service if it no longer serves my needs.
pointless update and absolutely garbage!
broken experience all around
update, i rolled it back as others had mentioned to restore functionality. i also disabled updates on firestick to avoid this hot garbage.
I will also hold all updates to the media server , as i dont trust plex atm.
Plex get your ■■■■ together!
