I have recently added photos to my Plex server and have noticed a number of issues. This is going to be one post of many so I can keep the issues separate (hopefully getting answers to all of them :))
To explain, my photos are stored in subfolders for albums:
/2017-01-05 Album Name/photos.jpeg
/2017-01-15 Album Name/photos.jpeg
I have a Plex Pass, and created my photo library with the photo tagging option turned on. My PMS is running the latest version (1.6.1.3722 at time of posting) which runs inside the linuxserver.io container on unRAID. I added all my photos in one go (~800 folders containing ~25,000 photos) and have had the occasional library update for more photos being added but none appear to have been tagged.
The server is logged in, remote access is enabled and fully works so I have no reason to think the server is unable to access the servers which do the tagging.
Is there anything I can do to understand why this is not working, or force the tags to be re-generated?
Unfortunately Plex has supplied a half baked product with the photo library. There hasn’t been any information or indication that an update is coming to improve the functionality.
I can get this level of functionality out of a Microsoft app for my photo library. With most of the photo cloud services closing over the past 2 years I have looked for a method to backup and store my library local. This is supposed to be an addition to a working media server. However I haven’t seen any updates or added functionality that allows me to better sort the mess of photos I’m trying to load.
There isn’t any good naming conventions, folder structure or tagging methods that plex supports. Simply they say dump the photos “here in x folder” and rely on their auto tagging service then wonder why people can’t find anything.
I see a lot of projects pulling this tiny company into too many directions. Recently they added live tv/dvr capabilities which works great but there are only so many things these techs can find and fix at once. Slow down the new innovations and refine the functionality please!

Can you try removing your Photo Library and re-adding it if its not autotagging properly?
Will do (will try to find a time when the server is not busy so the logs are not being flooded. Is there any cleanup or “dance” I need to do after removing the library to ensure Plex does not retain anything in the database or app cache files?
So I gave up waiting for a time when my server was not busy and tonight removed the library and re-added.
As there are so many pictures for it to scan (and I wasn’t thinking clearly about re-adding in sections) I have attached a couple of log bundles. The first is while it was still scanning all the photos (hopefully includes the delete of the previous library). The second is after the scan finished and hopefully contains the tagging attempts.
I am seeing the new location stuff, but still no auto-tags.
Thanks for the logs, they do show that the auto-tagging is happening so you must just wait for it to complete as it can take some time to process through everything.
In your logs you can see when a tagging operation is happening:
Aug 31, 2017 19:34:29.033 [0x2b9d89e00700] DEBUG - AutoTagging: processing /media/pictures/2003-07-20 British GP/DSCF0010.JPG (id: 141282). Current Version 1
Aug 31, 2017 19:34:29.034 [0x2b9d89e00700] DEBUG - AutoTagging: regenerating tags for metadata item 141282 as our AutoTag version has changed 1 => 2
A large photo section can take many hours to complete the tagging process.

Other than scanning the log files how will I know when the process is complete?
Hi, my server seems to be overloaded with such logs

As you should understand, it’s running from a Freenas Plugin in a jail. I can not understant if it is problem from my BSD or from temporary uploading service (Imagga). I tried to mentiion it on twitter but get no usefull answer about that : twitter.com/daffyduke/status/984888828728152065

It means your account has used up it’s quota of tagging requests with the Imagga tagging service, not because of it being on FreeNAS. The server will continue trying to tag items until your account moves out of a throttled state.

My server is doing the same thing and it’s been in this state for almost a week. I can’t find a single photo with a tag, they are all throttled and none are tagged. Is this service currently unavailable and all users photos are stuck?
I have the same problem. Service throttled, nothing tagged so far as I can tell. Manual tagging working fine. It’s a little unfair to indicate that this is a function that you will get with Plex Pass when it doesn’t actually seem to work.
Getting the same thing about the service being throttled. I haven’t been able to find any picture that has been tagged, though I haven’t checked all 17,000 of my pictures
