Photos Beta Feedback

Still the same thing - no change. Absolutely no feedback or any help. No library is showing up at the app - even with the latest update from today. The libraries and photos show up well at the web UI or at TV…but the photo app is empty…

Created another library with few photos only - still the same, does not show up at the app.

What do I have to do to get some feedback or even help from Plex here???

Thanks!!!.

Please, remove ‘Recommended’ as the opening view.

When it comes to personal media, and especially photos or videos, a ‘recommendation’ makes no sense. Who or what algorithm decides what I would like to see? It’s called ‘personal media’ for a reason.

The two main photo functions I used on the old mobile app, search and download to iPhone, still do not seem to be available in the new app.

Are there plans to build these functions into the new app? If so, when?

I pay for Plex Pass, but need to cancel my subscription if these aren’t available.

Still can’t download to Pixel 7

How about some patience… It’s a beta, bound to be bugs and there’s literally a Plex employee doing what he can in the background directly above your post. Take a chill pill…

@kazz3r24 How about some thinking before replying… Plex moved major functionality into an app that doesn’t work without keeping the functionality at the well known app until the new app is working.
As a paying customers we are loosing functionality…

I thought about my response before replying and stand by what I said… It’s Beta.

This app is almost the perfect solution to my problem!

Please, please, please make it work with Samsung The Frame TVs.

Also, add ability to add photos from the phone to the server and the ability to remove photos from the server via the phone. Thank you!

Is “Timeline” supposed to be working now? I just see a spinning circle and then the app becomes unresponsive.

Without this becoming a nasty flamewar, I do sympathise with @myh14.

You are correct, of course; this is a beta app so is bound to have bugs and problems to solve. The complication is that the existing (working) Plex app was discontinued so the only way to view Plex photos is via this unfinished, beta app.

In fact, does anyone know the final version of the Plex app before the Photos section was ripped out? I’m hoping to find a version on apkmirror to regain the ability to download photos.

Sure, of course I sympathize with @myh14 - a feature that they want to have in the app either isn’t working or isn’t there altogether - I’m a paid user too, so while I understand where they’re coming from, as I said it’s a beta app and the separation of apps will hopefully be better for all users in the long run, but patience needs to be at the forefront here.

I use the new the photos app just like everyone else, and have my gripes with it too such as not being able to upload photos from my phone…instead I am forced to download a zip of my photos from Google Photos and manually upload them to my server with Filezilla… Does this process suck?? Heck yes it does! Will the feature I want eventually be implemented? Yes, I have the belief that Plex will do right by the users.

Plex did what they needed to in their eyes when it comes to the apps - some of us may not like it, but it is what it is and complaining does next to nothing other than causing potentially heated discussions between users and Plex staff. Just let them do what they’re going to do, we have little control over it.

We have zero clue what’s going on behind the scenes at Plex.

Why use a 3rd-party site?

patience needs to be at the forefront here.

Criticism (respectfully) delivered is valuable.

Criticism: when rewriting parts of your program, don’t tear down the stable/production branch before the rewrite is production-ready.

Gotta say the Photo’s support is completely useless. Crazy HEIC wasn’t supported out of the gate, since it’s the number one mobile device photos format. There’s zero excuse for this. Talking about being respectful, then Plex should have respected it’s users and not assume HEIC wasn’t that import to be included in the initial released!

@CaptainKen2_1 please see my comment from yesterday re. HEIC:

The Photos app theoretically already has the pieces needed for it to work, however the server doesn’t currently support newer image formats (like HEIC, JPEG XL, and others)

How on earth could this issue even exist, yet alone for this long, when the majority of photos are taken with an iOS or Android device, that both use HEIC!

So reading between the lines here that it’s a complicated server issue, this will be at least another year before it is “possibly” fixed. Photos whether on the server or an app is totally useless unless we waste our time converting every photo, not to overlook the cost of a conversion app. This is completely unacceptable!!! I’d say it’s time to replace the team leader in charge of this portion of the project, since that person doesn’t understand the importance of this basic requirement.

I would suspect JPEG is still the number one mobile device photo format, despite the higher end phones starting to adopt HEIC.

Check out my comment on this post regarding the problem selecting the JPEG option on iOS.

I’d be happy just to have my jpeg photos working in Timeline at this point instead of worrying about the latest formats. Yet, it continues to receive no fixes even after being seen since the first public release and now the photo app is the only viewer on mobile.

So, you’re upset at Plex because you choose not to use JPEG photos on your Apple device because you can’t give up shooting homemade videos in High Efficiency? I can see why you’re upset at Plex for not halting everything else to make sure this gets fixed.
