Have not been able to find any leads on this problem, but perhaps I have been looking in the wrong places: When viewing photos on a TV via a Roku Ultra streaming device–either via a slideshow or advancing the images one-by one–the images will suddenly be displayed much smaller. In other words, a photo will appear full screen as desired, but then will then suddenly shrink to about half the screen size–very small. Same thing then happens when I advance to the next photo: First full size, then much smaller. This does not happen every time, but almost. This phenomenon does not occur when viewing photos on my Windows 10 PC via the Plex web app or the Plex Windows 10 client–the photos display full size there and stay full size. Any ideas what is happening with the Roku interface?
I’m having a like issue. Some of my photos display full size, then they are resized smaller. In my case they are probably only 10 - 20% smaller.
I don’t remember this happening in the past. Has there been a recent update to the PLEX Roku App?
Edit: nevermind. hooked up my Roku and I see it with landscape photos. Portrait ones are fine though which is strange but may help devs figure out what is wrong.
This appears to be fixed in the Roku Preview version. From what I can tell in the public version the photo player seems to be using the remote video quality which is at 720p by default and setting the photo to 720p which is smaller than TV screen probably. I changed it to original and things look ok.
Though i strangely if I change the setting back to 720p it seems to be ok now in public version.
Having the same problem. I have noticed that if I load one individual picture it is full screen. Then when I run the slideshow everything looks great for awhile until a few pictures have been displayed, then it starts shrinking them again. All pictures are displayed full screen and then something jerks them back down to small after a fraction of a second. Very annoying.
Same thing happening to me. Plex Preview does not correct it. Very annoying.
As others have noted, it occurs on landscape oriented photos. Not all of them, but most of them. I’ve tried every option on Roku, the Plex server and the Plex client. I’ve tried the Roku on multiple TVs. Same results.
I never want to believe it’s a bug, because in my experience, it can take forever to get software companies to fix bugs, if they bother to listen at all. So Plex, if you’re listening, THIS IS A BUG RELATED TO ONE OF YOUR SOFTWARE’S BASIC FUNCTIONS! Maybe it’s your bug, or maybe it’s Roku’s bug, but it seems to affect only your software. Please fix it or work with Roku to fix it and make it a high priority!
Hey all. Sorry for the troubles! We have isolated the issue and have a solution being reviewed. I’ll respond when we have published an update to correct the issue.
We have released a preview version that should correct the issue. This fix will be in the next public release. Please give it a test to confirm the fix.
