The “Play” function within Plex doesn’t appear to work. We have a fast home PC running Windows and Plex Server, multiple tv’s (Mostly Samsung’s), a TiVo Bolt, several TiVo mini’s, a Samsung 7 phone, and several iPhones and iPads (a pretty typical household I believe). I recently set Plex up and our initial use is to access and display photos on the PC. We have a Plex pass. While we can access the photos both inside and outside our home network, the “Play” feature doesn’t appear to work on any of the devices. Once selecting “Play”, we’ll see the first picture display, and it may advance 1x. After that, the display is static. I can advance to the next pictures manually, but that’s it. Selecting “Play” again might result in advancing to the next image, but there is no “automated” slide show, nor error messages.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Would like to get this resolved, use it extensively, and move on to the next feature!
Can you verify it works on plex.tv first? Click on Photos Library, then a Photo, then click the play button in the lower bar. Every 5 seconds it should advance. Once you’ve verified this, proceed to the iOS devices. (mainly because that’s what I have)
I have no problems advancing. If it still doesn’t work, a PMS log would be helpful.
Hi. Thanks for your comments and interest. I followed your suggestions and Play does work as Plex.tv from my PC. Following that, I tried several times from my iPad without success. I then tried Plex.tv from my iPad, and my TiVo app, without success.
I do have logging turned on but don’t know how to access or make sense of it.
Hi. with us “Play” definitely does not work since the last update of Media Player.
I have the same problem and as well a friend of mine. We both are using iMacs as master system with PLEX Server and Player on it. In addition we send the Photos to an Mac mini, connected HDMI to an TV set. On all our systems it is the same: press play, the first Photo is displayed, then the second comes up, and then it becomes static. I am a PLEX Pass user, my friend runs the free version.
So what can we do? We also can state that it was running very well 2 earlier versions of Media Player, and as well on Home Theater.
I have the same issues. Plex Server is running on Synology ds916+ and iPad OSI 10.3. Plex.tv works perfectly and same does Home Teater on Mac… IOS is the only place where it is not working
I have the same problem. The issue in plex media player only happens in full screen mode. If I “enter TV full screen”, go to photos, browse all, and hit “shuffle” it plays the first photo and then stops on the second photo. Plex media player works find playing photos if it’s not in “tv full screen” mode.
I have had a similar issue with Photos in the app on my TIVO for a while now. When I skip through the photos in full screen mode, either using the “>>” or the “->|” button on the TIVO remote, the slide show will stop every time after 10 pictures or so. At that point the app stops responding to any buttons but the “Back” button. When you hit “Back”, you have to navigate to where you left off viewing the pictures and start over again. This is quite annoying. I just upgraded my server to 1.7.3.3937 and the Plex App on the TIVO is at version 3.3.1.
I share the lament. Slideshow on Roku 3 HD Plex with solid wired Ethernet gets stuck after 20 or 30 images (“loading…” then “unable to load”), slideshow on Android N client never advances beyond the first image. No alert seen in the server status.
I really have a problem with PLEX in general - if you have got a problem there is no way to get help. There is no support, no ticket system, and if you use the BLOG you never get an answer to your issue. As good as PLEX was looking to me in the beginning, it becomes more and more a pain in the a… The more features PLEX adds, the more problems araise in the existing regular functions. For example, I simply want to show my 50.000 pictures, organized on a MAC mini, on a 4K TV set. This is since 6 months (!!) not possible anymore. I start to test now with alternative systems (e.g. KODI). Maybe I find a solution fitting for my needs, without PLEX. It is a pity …
