PHT/PMS Genres

Premium Music library set up in PMS

Local Media Assets listed at top of each agent setting in PMS

All tracks have genres set up the way I like them

PMS scans the albums just fine.

In PMS:

Artists - genres seem to be coming from Plex Premium music settings.  this is just fine as My

tagged in settings are per track/album

Albums - Genres are coming from my tags in the actual media (MP3) files

- All is good so far....

However, in PHT, both artist and Albums are using the Premium music genres, not my tagged ones....   Why doesn't PHT match PMS?

any thoughts?

crickets?

Anybody?

PHT shows by default Artists. Therefore genre filter only shows genres which are tagged on artists.

But the internal genre tag of a file applies to an album. If you want to filter by album genre, you must set the list to album first.

It is the same as in the web app.

I have done that.

Here is PMS, Artists.  this is what I expect

Here is Plex for WIndows (Windows 8.1).  This is what I would expect (Artist Genres)

Here is where it goes off the rails.   This is album.  Same thing happens in PHT.  It is NOT picking up the album genres shown in the PMS print screen

I have found that it displays both the Gracenote and the Album genres in PHT. So the list very long.

Sorry, no

I just checked.  I have about 1/2 dozen genres that begin with "Ethnic"

they are not showing up.

By the way, I have "don't use genres from gracenote set in the agent.

I'm seeing the same issue. The Web client, when displaying the Album view filtered by Genre, will use the genre list drawn from the embedded ID3 Genre tags. This is the correct behaviour.

However, both PHT and the Windows 8.1 app, even when set to display Albums filtered by Genre, will use what appears to be a list of genres drawn from the Artist metadata, instead of my embedded genre tags. This is not the correct behaviour.

In my opinion, this is clearly a bug, and an annoying one. Please can it be addressed.

PHT, displaying Albums filtered by Genre, showing a completely different list of genres, drawn from who-knows-where:

The Windows 8.1 app showing the same list of incorrect genres:

OK.. one person see this and you can call him an idiot (me).

2 people, and I think we have a bug....

Can someone a PLex verify this?

Any thoughts from anyone at plex?

Anything?

Jut a question here...   I am a plex pass member....

I am not expecting a 24 hour fox on anything... or a 24 hour response.  I am paying in the hopes that I can get some support.

Is there a part of this forum where I can bring up things like this and see them acknowledged?

This is either a bug, or a problem with how I have set things up.

We are investigating this, it looks like the artist genre list is displayed instead of the album genre list.

Thanks for this. And what should the behaviour be if we select "none" (don't use genres from Gracenote) in the Music library Advanced settings? Does that mean that we should not see any genres associated with artists, other than those we add manually to each artist?

the next version of PMS will contain a fix for the ‘None’ genres issue
