Picture slide show images go all blurry after 25 - 30 images

Same issue on apple tv. You guy, what are you doing? What are you thinking while reading these posts?
Blurry photos after a while and no slideshow. Come on, we are in 2020!

Setup Plex server this week so I could view pictures on iOS devices, mainly Apple TV. What a massive disappointment to have it blur the pictures after viewing 3-4 of them. I decided not to subscribe, based on this OBVIOUS bug and the fact Plex hasn’t fixed it for 9+ months. I have concluded the app has been abandoned and is no longer being developed so I’m not buying the Plex Pass. What a shame they have abandoned this popular app. But I guess 9 months tells the tale. They do not care and have stopped supporting it.

It’s not so much that they’ve abandoned it but rather have lost their way. I seem to be putting all their resources into their very sad “Welfare Netflix.” But their collection is laughable, and frankly an embarrassment. I think they have the wrong people steering the ship. Better replace them quick before the ship sinks.
Having said all this, I still pay for a PlexPass, hoping one day soon they will fix the problems they have and stop wasting money on side projects doomed to fail.

I agree, and am replying to ensure this topic stays open until issue is fixed.

This issue finally annoyed me enough to see if I’m the only one. I assumed it must be an obscure edge case, because how could a great product like Plex just not work an all Apple devices?

I’m really surprised to see that it’s not just me. So, here I am adding my voice to the pile. This is a huge problem and, moreover, shakes my confidence in using Plex as my home media portal.

Still not fixed on release 7.7 for AppleTV. Crashes repeatedly after viewing 5 or 6 pictures. Also, the update time per image is very slow, eg 5 - 10 seconds. Once it has crashed, apple TV is locked out of the NAS server that was hosting the photos.

iPhone app seems marginally improved. It still crashes, but typically only after 20 is picture views. In this case, the crash seems recoverable by navigating out then back in to the picture folder. Also the photo update time is much quicker. Still not an acceptable user experience though.

I’m having the same issue on my iPhone 12. I have the most updated version of the Plex app from the App Store.

I’m having the same issue, I didn’t have the issue on my Note 20 Ultra last week. I reformatted my Windows machine because I bought a new motherboard and upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max (Jump on Demand is great), and now my iPhone keeps blurring out images. I read comics from my Plex server and about 30 pages in it blurs out.

Is there a fix or solution?

Right on! Thank you for helping keep this ridiculously long standing and inexcusably ignored issue alive.
Hello Plex support! Is anybody home? What do iOS users have to do get you to fix this nearly year-old problem?
I’m getting fed up!!

Well, as if this problem wasn’t already bad enough, it seems to have gotten even worse after latest iOS updates for iPhone and Apple TV 4K. Images now take even longer to load, and can go completely blurry after viewing only a handful. Plex on iOS has been completely useless for viewing photos for a year, and after one feeble response from Plex support at the outset, we haven’t heard a peep from Plex support this whole time–despite a continuously growing chorus of users reporting the problem.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what we might do to get Plex’s attention and finally get this problem resolved? I’m at my wits end.

Just wanted to add my voice/frustration as well. This feature used to work, but I get same blurred image after about 20ish images. Local server (windows 10), clients are all IOS. The only time it does work as expected is in a web browser on my Macs. But not in the client or web browser on IOS devices (phone/pad/apple tv).

I tried everything in the settings, lowering the resolution, trying beta software on server and using TestFlight and the issue seems to be the same no matter what I do on both beta and stable/production software.

It almost seems like there is something wrong with the code itself. Especially since it didn’t happen when I was on Android.

Reporting the same issue.

This is really frustrating me because so many people have reported it but Plex seems to have taken no action to resolve it.

Sill unresolved. The blur background effects takes the focus instead of the real image. Delete this blur background, at least it should then work!

There some 74 comments in this topic thread. If you read them they all say the same thing: iOS Plex player can’t play more than a few photos before the images turn to fog, and the player freezes. I have four different servers in my setup:: a MacBook Pro, a Mac mini, and two Nvidea Shields. Plex iOS PLAYER cannot screen more than a few photos on ANY server. This is strictly an iOS app problem because I can view photos for hours when playing Shields, MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Just as so many other Plex users have reported in this thread: Plex iOS player, on any iOS device can’t handle the photos. Strictly Plex on iOS app.

Same issue here for me on my iPhone 12 Pro Max…

Starts fine with 15-20 pics, then it only shows every second pic and after around 30 all are just blury and you cant’t see the pic

I have same issue, it’s very sad about Plex don’t care this big issue, I think this is Basic function right?

Adding my comment to this. The problem is already very well described in this thread by others and I have the same issue. What I have noticed is that if the client is displayed as a sliding window in IOS the problem does not occur. This obviously doesn’t really help much but hopefully it may be of interest to the developers that are trying to fix this.

On a more general note during lockdown I’ve considered using Plex and an old iPad as a way of sending family photos to my 85 year old mother. In my view this would be the simplest way I can think of getting someone of this age to use and understand this type of technology. Given the IOS client doesn’t fully work this isn’t an option and would only add confusion. Maybe Plex are underestimating the significance of this defect.

I am life time subscriber and had the exactly same issues a couple of months ago. Very time it goes blur, I have to quit the enlarged pic and then selected it again. It is REALLY annoying. And I decide not to use this picture function since then till we have a fix. But it seems it have not fixed for the whole year! Plex Team, come on! Do something!

@DaveBinM - sorry to tag you directly, but are we approaching reporting this issue correctly? It’s gone on for quite come time, across multiple users, devices and both client and server versions. Are there any logs we can get for you to reproduce, or any additional information we can get to help the Plex team narrow down and resolve this? Any advice you might have would be much appreciated. :pray:t2:
