Is there a setting that changes the way you enter PIN numbers to access a plex user? Our son is a sneaky little one and you cant just enter the pin in front of them because you can see the pin as you select it. Any other way to do this? We are on the third PIN now.
Nope. There is no other option. Make him turn around
Thats the current method, but he still manages to figure it out. His bedroom is in a loft above the living room. My guess he sneaks a peek.
I don’t know if you’re using a TV or a streaming device, but if you are using a TV you can just use the numbers and type the pin in, doesn’t show up on screen at all.
This is the primary item that keeps me using ePMP on a Pi3/NUC.
I did hear that I could achieve this (direct # entry via remote) by using a Flirc on a SHIELD. Thinking of giving that a try.
If Plex would change the PIN input box on the AppleTV we could use the AppleTV Remote app on our iPhones to type the pin in.
HI.
If you learn how to do direct number entry when using a ROKU with the Plex app and a Harmony remote, please let me know.
I feel this is a huge security piece that still needs to be worked out. I too try to do the right thing by putting a PIN on my and my wife’s profile because we have access to Rated R movies. My son gets only G. But like all kids… he’s clever… and can see the numbers on the PIN just like everyone else in the room. This forces us to make him turn around (which is a pain) and frequently change the PIN which is even worse because then I cant remember.
So… i hope this can be built.
I use a Harmony 700 remote to control everything including the ROKU. I’ve used many other remotes over the years, and that’s never been a factor. Plex has always made me go to the number to select it which again, everyone can see.
I use a PIN on Directv… and there… i can use the numbers on the remote and they show up on the TV as asterisks… so no one see’s the numbers.
Thanks
I only have a RokuTV in my office which I think behaves differently than regular Rokus. The RokuTV allows me to enter numbers directly from my Harmony Hub remote. I have it configured to control the RokuTV via IP and you add a keyboard which then allows you to use the number keys on the remote.
For my other TVs, I now run exclusively Nvidia Shield’s paired with the Harmony Hubs. Like the RokuTV, the Shield+Harmony Hub allows you to pair a keyboard which then gives you access to the number keys.
