PIN Security not working

I have two plex media servers; one is ‘private’ and one is for the house.

All other plex app’s require a PIN to get to the ‘private’ area one; but the Xbox app happily brings up my content listing (which isn’t exactly roomate safe)

This brings the question…why is the plex server even ‘having a conversation’ with the plex client if it doesn’t provide the PIN?

Plex Home has not been implemented into the app yet, but is one of the 3 major features that are left for parity so it should be decently high on the priority list. (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204103423-Where-is-feature-X-)

Typically, the Xbox One app will not have an issue connecting to any server your account is authorized to view because you have already authorized the Xbox One app via the plex.tv/pin page to your account. In this instance the security is that only you should be logging into the Xbox Live Account that is linked to your Plex.tv account.

That seems like poor security to implement at the application level, rather than the server level.

That’s because Plex Home isn’t implemented on the Xbox One App. So until Plex Home is implemented with full multi-user and pin protection that is the only security available.

And it is protected at the server level, you granted the application your user rights. So it only has access to servers that your user has access to. What it doesn’t have is user restrictions because the app can only log in as one user at a time. But with that, it is something that can currently be worked around by using the stickied topic (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/132749/how-to-use-multi-user-on-xbox-one)

From there you simply share the libraries/servers you want with the secondary user and have your roommate(s) log into the xbox live account associated with those restrictions which will prevent them from seeing the other server completely (Unless they log into your xbox live account).
