SONOS# S2
I would like to know what the plans are to improve and expand the PLEX & SONOS experience. By that I mean the SONOS app as well the possibility to cast from iOS to SONOS devices (this feature is the main reason for me to have a PLEX Pass).
My main problem is the sluggishness of the “cast to SONOS” feature. Starting a song is taking several seconds and the reaction to volume changes is very slow as well - and sometimes not working at all. (For TIDAL and SONOS see my other topic)
For the SONOS app it would be great to get a similar experience as the other PLEX apps with grid views and better sorting possibilities - or just fix the casting feature
On iOS, give a try to Plexamp 3.2, which is now able to cast to Sonos. I use it to play files stored on a NAS, user experience is really better compared to Sonos app. Actually, if I could group/ungroup Sonos speakers directly from Plexamp, I would just uninstall the Sonos app. But…
Thanks for the hint with Plexamp. I use it in my car with CarPlay. But the Sonos experience is as bad as the normal Plex app (which I usually prefer - especially on the iPad). I can start playing on a Sonos device but there is a very big lag and the volume control via the Plex(Amp) app is a catastrophe. Making things worse even the volume control with the Sonos app seems to be effected by Plex.
For home use I now use Roon. It’s much too expensive and also has some weak points but the overall experience for listening to your own music (with enhanced meta data and Tidal suggestions) is much better.
Is the functionality of Plex within the Sonos app limited to your music library and playlists within Plex? I mean, no artist radio? I’ve been shopping wireless speaker systems and would prefer one with an app with full Plex functionality built in so as to not need to use two apps. If I must cast in order to get all the functionality of Plex I there is no reason to limit myself to a Sonos system. I’m also looking at the Bose system.
