Play all search results! (today playing Broadway albums is almost impossible)

Hello,

Please create a play button that would play all search results.

The tracks on Broadway albums often have different artists because not all artists sing on all tracks.

Playing these kinds of albums has been extremely difficult with Plex to the point that I stopped using Plex completely.

Let me give you an example. Let’s say I want to search and play the “Aladdin” Broadway cast album.

Below is what I see in Plex when I search for Aladdin. All those results are actually a single album. When I click on each of those items I usually get a single track, then I have to go back and click on another one etc. I cannot find a way to play the complete album.

The simplest workaround that I can think of is for Plex to allow playing all the search results with a single click.

There are 2 different ‘Artist’ tags for music files.
one is the ‘Track Artist’. This is the one you have already set properly.

And then there is the ‘Album Artist’. This one needs to be uniform across all tracks which belong to a common album. And this one you either don’t use or use improperly.
The organisation of files into subfolders in a defined way can help to keep your tracks together in one album.

What you want to do is very similar to setting up a ‘Sampler’ style album. The only difference for your particular case would be to use e.g. ‘Aladdin Broadway Cast’ instead of ‘Various Artists’ as a name for the ‘Album Artist’.

See here for detailed guidance:

Thanks for answering. Can you please also address my original request of having a play button that plays all search results?

Also, the album information in my files comes from MusicBrainz or some similar service.

There is a play button in the web app which allow for playing all search results.
You should probably specify your particular plex client app where you are missing it.

Also, the album information in my files comes from MusicBrainz or some similar service.

This does not mean it is correct or infallibe. Depending on the preferences of your music tagging software, those informations can get applied differently (and incorrectly).

The screenshot above was taken from the web player in version 2.5.2 of Plex Web. I cannot find the Play all button there, where would I see it in the screenshot?

Thanks!

Your screen shot is cropped.

Thanks for the screenshot.

Below is the full screenshot that I see. I do not know how to show that menu on the left.

Nevermind, I figured out that I have to click on Music first. I hope you agree with me that both finding the menu and the menu itself is not a good user experience.

I think I know why:
You are using the ‘global search’ which searches every library on your server.
Since the results of the global search can yield music and video results at the same time, there is no play button. Because you can’t make a play queue with both music and video content.

Solution:
go into your music library first, then make your search.
