Play history not accurate

Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081
Player Version#: via Alexa

I’ve previously had the occasional song not appear in my play history in Dashboard, I’ve even commented on it a while back on this issue, which went unresolved.

Lately it has gotten worse and at times it seems like almost every other song is not showing up in my play history, which is really annoying when I want to go back and see which song was playing.

I’m shuffling playback of my entire music collection via Alexa playback. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Apparently, I’m the only one experiencing this issue. Just checking again last night and history is almost useless for me.

This is happing to me. I’m using Alexa to shuffle a playlist which is songs that haven’t been played in the last 10 days. I’m hearing the same same song within that time period, sometimes the same day. Play history shows Alexa for only some of the plays. I was using Roku and never had an issue.

Thanks for the response. If I had more time I’d try to see if it is specifically related to playback via Alexa as opposed to using PlexAmp or the web client. When I previously responded on the other related issue I mentioned in my description, at least then it mostly worked for me. Now it barely works. :frowning:

I’ve only been using Alexa for Plex for a couple of weeks now, since dumping Sirius.

If it gets worse then I’ll probably go back to using Roku.

This happens to me as well.
Also having a problem where the dashboard doesn’t display track progress accurately, and posted about that a few months back (no replies).

Yes, I also regularly experience track progress being inaccurate. I also regularly see the displayed track progress get stuck and stay on a given song even though the server has continued on to playing other songs.

Pretty bad, the dashboard isn’t accurate while it is playing and the history isn’t accurate after it has played. They’re really doing a great job in this area…

Hard to believe it could get worse, but with server 1.24.5.5173 I am now seeing no songs appear in history when I play them via Alexa. History is not completely broken, though, because I do see movies and TV shows my kids play via Fire TV, just no songs when shuffling my “everything” playlist via Alexa.

Looking at my history, if I play an album or artist (ie, multiple songs) via Alexa, the history will only show one track from that particular session. Even if I change albums, if it’s within the same general timeframe, there will only be one track listed on the history.

Wonder if the dev team could now look into THIS Alexa issue, now that the playback on 1st gen devices magically resolved itself (Amazon probably did something with the expired certificate issue).

@anon18523487 ??

I haven’t checked recently, since it has gotten so bad. I’ll try to remember to check again when I get a minute, but I’m not optimistic.

I’m still only seeing my play history update seldomly if at all when playing music via Alexa on my Echo, even though it correctly shows as “now playing” in the dashboard.

Well, today it keeps doing this thing where I played a song on my 1st gen Echo and it continues to display it in the dashboard as still playing, well after the song has ended, even with network traffic. Asking the Echo to play something else, asking the Echo to stop Plex, restarting the server, and even unplugging the Echo don’t seem to stop the song from reappearing in the dashboard still playing on Alexa. Turned off my server and going to leave it that way for a couple hours and hopefully that “clears” it out.

Yeah, I’ve seen that persistent “now playing” behavior too. It amazing how many odd variations of bugs you can get out of one fairly simple feature.

Persistent “now playing” behavior happening right now, yet again. Seems to happen more with the 1st gen Echo.

BUT…
I got a fun new Alexa quick that I noticed this week.
Sometimes the dashboard does not seem to be able to recognize the audio type when playing on an Echo. I have not been able to identify a pattern based on file type or bitrate or anything. Seems pretty random.

Plex Dash app will show blank space in the “expanded view” of the now playing section. Dashboard on the web app will show audio type as “none.”
Never seen this before.

Going to tag @anon18523487 again to see if he could bring these issues to the Alexa team’s attention.
No feedback from Plex means we have no idea if these issues are even known, let along being worked on.
