BUG - Plexamp plays no longer showing play history

Up until a few weeks ago, when I would play a song in plexamp, it would show up in the play history on PMS. However, after updating to the newest plexamp and the newest PMS a couple weeks ago, playing music on plexamp no longer shows up in the play history. I saw it happen when I updated to the newest plexamp and before updating to the newest PMS, so my guess is that something changed in the newest plexamp.

Also, when I play in the web player from my PMS, the plays show up just fine in the play history. At least one other person has seen this as well: on reddit

Should be an easy fix since it used to work just fine.

weird, i’m not sure why that would be.

where exactly are you looking for play history? i’ve been playing all evening Plexamp for iOS and all the tracks show up in the History section off the home screen.

Hi @elan,

Yes, they show up in the plexamp play history. That part is working fine, which is why it sounds like it would be an easy fix. Also, I am using Plexamp on windows. I honestly haven’t checked if it is working on android (I don’t have iOS). I’ll do that and update below.

However, when I go to the music item in PMS, and click the three dot context menu, then click on “View Play History,” they no longer show up here. It is only with the most recent update of Plexamp (as far as I can tell) that this stopped working. Like it is not getting pushed back to PMS? However, when I look at the PMS dashboard while something is playing on plexamp, it shows up as playing. So I am not sure why it is not updating the play history on PMS.

However, you are right. If I go to my music library on PMS and sort by Date Played, then it is correct and shows the music I have played on Plexamp. However, none of it is in the “View Play History” for each item.

  1. Were you playing the songs in full, from start to finish?
  2. Do you have “store track progress” activated in the properties of your library? (don’t, unless this is a library for audiobooks)

Hi @OttoKerner.

  1. Yes. I have been playing entire playlists for a few days, and only at that point did I notice. Then I updated PMS to the latest, played probably 50 songs, and then checked. Still nothing.
  2. Yes, I do. It is a music library. Should I uncheck this? This has not changed since I made the library, so that is not what “changed.” Meaning, that it used to work even with this checked.

Uncheck it please. It has no use in a music library, unless you love listening to just the end of songs.

Hi @OttoKerner,

Haha, okay. Will it still “pick up” where I left of if I pause and close the app? I do like that aspect…

Thanks

Yes, if you use plexamp, this will still work.
The playback position just won’t “travel” to other plex clients anymore.

Hi @OttoKerner,

Thanks, that did it! Did something change recently that kept that from marking play counts?

A change was made, so that audiobooks were only considered “played” when progress went over the 99% mark. Plex Media Server - #391 by StSimm1

And if you have activated “store playback progress”, the library is considered an audiobook library, so the 99% rule is applied.
And due to Sweet Fades it can happen that many tracks are not actually played 99%.

Thanks, @OttoKerner. Yep, I have sweet fades enabled. That definitely makes sense. Thanks for the insight and the help!
