Play music without a display

Hello everyone,

I would like to use plex especially to listen to music, but I don’t know if the software is right for me.
What I want to do is this: I would like to install the server on a pc with windows, connected directly to my hifi, so no video. So I would like to be able to start the music remotely via mobile phone. I don’t have to hear the music on my cell phone but it must be conveyed from the PC to the amp of the audio system. The idea is to turn on the desktop (without using a monitor connected) and play music IN the desktop, using a phone to choose music.

Is it possible?

Thank you

You can get an Alexa device or echo Dot and plug that into your receiver and listen to music that way. Or Sonos I believe will do the same thing.

I use my echos to listen to music but don’t plug them into an amp.

You can’t control the echo from your phone but it will require no monitor as you are requesting.

Are you saying that your desktop is near the amp, and you want to connect the PC audio output to the amp?

If so:

You need to test this thoroughly, to make sure that plexamp is only started after plex server has been started up completely. See https://superuser.com/questions/167933/how-do-you-delay-the-launch-of-an-application-in-windows-7-at-startup for a few ideas how to accomplish this.

Once plexamp is running, you can connect the Plex mobile app (Android, iOS) to it and push all kinds of audio media to it. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/features/casting-flinging-remote-control/

Otto,

it seems exactly what I need, I’ll try one of these days. Thank you very much for the help!
I’ll let you know

@nokdim: thank you for the help but I don’t want to use alexa/dot if I can
