Play source file from different NAS's on same internal network

Hello,

First time ever posting, I just want to say thanks to PLEX for creating such an amazing tool to gather all of one’s videos in one place! With that said I seem to find one minor detail that could make it even better.

Therefore I have a feature request I can’t seem to find anywhere, I’m looking for the possibility to choose where to play a file from, exactly like when you have multiple files of the same movie in different qualities.

I have two houses connected to each other over the WAN so they are on the same “internal network”. As I only have one plex server and to avoid streaming content over WAN I would like to have the possibility to choose from where the content should be streamed from.
Please let me know if the above makes sense otherwise I will of course try and explain it in more detail.

If you have several Plex servers, you have to select the server in the Plex clients anyway - before you can do anything else.

The only exeption from that rule now is OpenPHT.

Thanks for the fast replay.

I only have one plex server but i have another location where i often stream stuff at and i would like to have a local copy there of movies to aviod streaming it over the WAN as the bandwidth is low and i don’t want to go down on quality.

So what you are saying is with OpenPHT I’m able to change the text of the buttons that tells me what quality the file is to instead tell me the location?.

No, that is not what I meant.

If you cannot stream stuff over the WAN, then you need a local server.
There is no such thing as a Plex ‘cache’ server or anything of that sort.
The only posssibility would be to have a media file storage which is somehow replicated from your primary server over the WAN.
Then setup a second Plex server on the second location and use that.

I can stream but 1080p isn’t going smooth, to setup a second plex server that would still require me to maintain two servers I was hoping for a solution where you could start a movie and then it prompts you from which location you want to start it.

I guess what I’m looking for isn’t possible but hoped it would be put on a wish list.

Thanks for your effort.

I understand the intent, but such a thing is currently not possible in Plex.
