Would be nice to be able to entertain the littles riding with me in the vehicle if I could access my own library while on the road.
Apple CarPlay does not include any support for video playback for obvious safety reason. Same for Android Auto. There are hacks for doing so but even those should NOT be used to watch videos while driving.
Far better is to use a tablet and it already works.

Not sure how using a tablet makes the situation safer. Obviously you’ve not had to travel with kids in your vehicle. Adjusting, the content playing, etc is better done on a centralized device within reach of the vehicle operator, instead of fumbling around for something that is inevitably going to fall on the floor/seat etc. Talk about distracted driving.

I know that only audio is supported on Android Auto for safety reasons.
Is it possible to reconsider this? Or perhaps allow playback while the vehicle is stationary?
I drive an electric vehicle, which means long periods of charging idle time. I also have kids, which means waiting outside after school activities.
This means that I have a decent amount of downtime in the vehicle, and I’d rather use the built in screen.
I found workarounds, like the web version of plex, but the quality is low and choppy. Otherwise, I watch on my cellphone - a smaller screen.
Installing an apk on the headset didn’t work for whatever reason.
So, an official enablement of this feature in Android Auto will be welcomed.
I mean, in Teslas you can do just about anything, and while driving too… World has changed, and like I suggested, it could only work while stationary.

With iOS 26, Apple is allowing video playback via CarPlay (while parked). Please update the Plex iOS app to support this functionality.
