"Playback cannot continue because connection to your server has been lost" every 5 minutes

Server Version#: Version 1.30.0.6486 on Windows 11 PC

I’ve been having this issue for at least 2 prior server versions as well. When I try to watch a movie, it “loses” the connection every 5 minutes or so. I’m trying to play the movies on my Apple TV or my iPad, so unfortunately over wifi and not my ethernet over powerline connection.

Updated to add that I’ve tried optimizing my database, cleaning bundles, and signing out of the server and back in. Remote access reports it’s accessible outside my network. 5 minutes was optimistic; I’m losing connection after a minute or two of video at most. I’ve never had an issue with running Plex before over this same wifi connection in 5+ years. I have my router split my wifi into separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections (because it was causing issues with my PlayStation when I didn’t have them split and they would auto-switch) and I made sure the server and the Apple TV and iPad are all on the 2.4GHz. My PC doesn’t sleep and I have the hard drive set to not sleep.

The only thing that’s changed in the last year is that I’m now on Windows 11 and I let Windows 11 update itself automatically.

Here are my log files.

I seem to have partially fixed the problem. I guess what I needed to do was tell the Plex app on my iPad that it was okay to reduce the quality of the stream if my connection wasn’t fast enough. I got a good hour of play before it stopped again and wouldn’t restart.

Do you use VPN software on the Server?

I would disable the first 4 adapters and see if Plex is less confused.

I have a VPN but it wasn’t running. If it isn’t too much trouble could you help me with how to disable those? Meanwhile I’ll work on Googling the answer.

Some VPN’s alter network behavior even when not used but lets see what we can do. If you have identified which one you are using you can disable the others except the VPN one. Take a screen shot before you do anything . (WIN + SHIFT + S)

Right click on Start > Network Connections
Advanced Network Settings > Disable Buttons

Then restart Plex.

Thank you. I think I’ve disabled the one I wasn’t using. I don’t know why it lists the SSID of my 2.4GHZ wifi connection under the Ethernet adapter (as I mentioned, I have the PC hooked into my ethernet over powerline). I will try to stream something tonight and see if it helps any. The other ones listed were Wifi 2 (which I would guess might be my 5GHZ wifi?) which is the one I disabled, Local Area Connection which said it was not connected, and Bluetooth which it said was also not connected. I’m not using any Bluetooth devices anyway (I prefer a wired mouse and keyboard) so I went ahead and disabled the local area and Bluetooth as well for now.

Thank you so much for your help! So far it seems to be working much better.
